Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I find anything that really covers it.
Basically, how does Sonic the Comic Online work?
Everything seems far more organized than your average web comic circle and closer to how an actual magazine is run. From what I gather there are editors and script writers and what have you, so I'm curious as to how all of that stacks together and how much of that assumption I have completely ass backwards.
So to clear up my lack of knowledge on the subject, here's a rake of questions!
How many editors are there? How much staff is there in general?
How many writers and artists do you have in your pool? How do you actually decide what stories get put in a given issue? Do artists get assigned to issues or how does that work?
Actually, how do stories get started in StCO in the first place? Do the script writers dictate everything, or do people submit their own stuff?
Wow that's a terribly noobish post. Good times.

There is a whole Mix, but basically in the past we've had a number Editors who are responsible for the comic's direction. At minute Stiv and Mike are our sort of editors. we have a number of contributors some who are mainly artists like Adamis, some who are artists but do more colouring, I.e Myself and Pete Then we have people who do more writing like Jamie.
Then we have people who are too talented who are all rounders like Ste and Shay
It would be wrong however to say writer or editor dictate to artists. We all kick around ideas that may come from any number of people, and then one person will take that away to write. Or sometimes people come in with a fully formed script and the team pick through it to make sure it fit's in cannon wise and doesn't contradict other stories, and also that it fit's in with the theme of STC-O
After that the script will be assigned an Artist or Art team to work on the story. While we have a core team of artists, we also have a group of freelances who help us with stories when we haven't got the resource in house (so to speak)
Also need to point out that there a lot of other content so we also have the website to design and maintain, which it done at the moment mostly by our Editor Mike.

Is evil.
But there is a rag tag bunch of ex mercenaries and maybe if you look down and whisper no enough you can call upon "The Penderes".

Ideas for strips take many forms - theres a sort of agreed general direction that creates a framework on which to hang stories ('mobius at war' being the current one!) - Some stories are created out of neccessity to either establish, develop or resolve the elements of that "big" story - sometimes there is inspiration to bring in an element from the games - other times writers will submit story ideas that can fit into our framework without upsetting the continuity too much - in some cases we've had artists suggest stuff that they'd like to draw and this has sparkd off an idea for a strip - as I recall "Big Hits the Road" began life as a simple adamis sketch of Big on a motorbike! Of late there's usully been a lot of panel beating of scripts where stuff gets refined and tweaked around the team, both artists and writers throwing in their two peneth at both script and art stages so it ends up a tighter product, and now we're trying to include time for proof reading too - I'm hoping that's only going to bear more fruit as time goes on, it certainly sems to have been noted and appeciated in some of our recent releases

Guys, guys, guys! You're forgetting the most important member of the team - Mega Droid! Anyways I really liked the little sneaky previews of how the comic is made, such as the video of a panel being drawn. I also appreciate when the artists post their stuff up on DA as well so you can see the panels in pre-lettered form. But I too often wonder how you guys keep so many threads going at once. I'm sure I saw Ed post that you have stories for the next few years all planned out!

Back in the day when it was just Nigel and Lew they wrote stories based on what they wanted and editor mandates. As a larger team we have to plan out where things are going so you don't see Tails dealing with Windy Wallis, while it's supposedly the end of Mobius. This doesn't always work out for the best but we try for the most part to keep a idea of where the Comics heading, and when I say we I mean the people who do most of the real work like Mike, Charles, Stiv Chig Shay etc

I told Stiv I'd draw something once and then I didn't.
And that's how babies are made.

The situation is this:
Occasionally a comic gets made.
Then we message board users take panels from the comics and change what the speech bubbles say, or "butcher" the comic, if you will. That's how I make sense of it all anyway.

Haha, thanks for the information!
For bonus points, how does someone go about applying to be an artist, or submit pitches/scripts/whatever?

Contact Stiv or Mike. Show your skills. For example, if you're applying as an artist, show us that you can draw comics and tell a story with your art.

I colour stuff.
From time to time. Like, if I didn't work full-time, STCO would be my full time job.
As it stands, I'm colouring two stories at the moment, along with drawing a few other bits and pieces that are still in the works.
