Not content with just Ratchet and Heavenly Sword (and possible Last of Us and Sonic) films, Sony has also greenlit a Sly Cooper film!
A lot of people thought it was an elaborate hoax when images were leaked but, it's real, having been confirmed on Sony's blogs. The movie is going to be retelling the plot of the first game and is intended to be just as comedic as the source material, with Sucker Punch and Sony advising the production similar to Insomniac with Ratchet and Clank's film.
The first thing one notices is the complete shift in art style. This was explained as being because they felt cel-shading wouldn't work very well on the big screen, and so they altered it to be pure CGI. The fanbase is... having interesting reactions to Murray. Also Sly with pants is the new Knuckles with fingers.
You may also notice Sly's voice seems different. Kevin Miller has been confirmed as not reprising his role as Sly for the film despite having been Sly's voice consistently since the first game. The fanbase is also having mixed reception to this.
Thoughts?
Personally I'm stoked; I only got into Sly Cooper in 2012 but it has already endeared itself to me as a franchise and I'm loving the fact it's getting a shot at Hollywood. I think these next few years will be a good one for video game films, now that they're making use of fully CGI movies rather than prior attempts to insert video games into real life.

I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy, but everything that's come since has felt completely superfluous. The art Design already, much like Thieves in Time, completely misses the point of the simplicity and cohesive nature of the originals...not to mention we're definitely not going to get anything like the level of depth and wit offered by Sucker Punch in the original trilogy.
Personally I'd stick with the original trilogy as I feel this franchise is continuing to be utterly mismanaged.
