Yes, Sonic the Comic was cancelled. It just went out of print, that's all, and now we have Sonic the Comic- Online.

Fleetway stopped printing out copies of new stories in Sonic the Comic by issue #184. From then on they the comic went into total re-reprint. By #223 Fleetway stopped puplishing the comic. Now its been resurrected as STC-O. Although it takes much longer to make these comics but its understandable of course.

I knew it was on its way out when they started reprints and really bumping up the price. First it was just one story, then two, then all but one of the stories in STC were reprints. Finally they just made the whole thing a reprint job which I think was a bit of a let down as they really should've ended on a high with an original story which would've wound the years of STC nicely to a close. I guess that it was good to show some old stories for newer readers but not the whole thing. Anyway it was a shame when it finished but now we have STC-O which is great as there is still a lot of potential storylines to be had from the STC universe.

#223, at the end of 2001, was the final printed issue. Egmont allowed its license with Sega to lapse. The creative team had long since been forced to move on (I'm sure you realise there had been no new material in the comic for eighteen months before then). As you can see, the comic has been revived on the web, with a new creative team, dedicated to bringing you new adventures with the same cast. Check out this week's 2000AD to see what the original STC team is up to!

Get back On-Topic now. I have one question though, Why did Fleetway decide to stop puplishing copies of STC? Couldn't they keep up with costs or did they decide just to close?

Probably just couldn't be bothered to buy the lisence fee again. And I think Tom said they were shutting down their comics division anyway.

Why did STC decide to stop puplishing copies of STC? I realize I made a little mistake. But something's werid is happening. I try to change STC (the first time I mentioned it) into F-l-e-e-t-w-a-y. But it keeps changing to STC.

That's a little added quirk to the swear filter, since Fleet-thingy is mainly used to denominate between STC and Archie. Which obviously isn't really needed here.

That's kinda stupid for using the swear filter for a word that's not even a swear word.

Shouldn't make any difference since that trade name didn't exist per se by the time they stopped publishing it. It was Egmont Magazines IIRC.

The publisher is, and always has been, called "Egmont" anyway!

Isn't 'Egmont F-l-e-e-t-w-a-y' the full name though?

Subsidised, raped, whatever you'd like to call it.
Fleetway was merged with London Editions and Egmont property long before STC began circulation.
It was pretty weird (not to mention revoltingly mean) of Egmont to buy up all the major English comics publishers and then close down the entire market. But then it's not the only weird (or mean) thing Egmont's ever done.
