Has anyone ever tried Sonic fangames? A lot of them are very basic Klik n Play creations, but there are some good ones out there done in MMF or C and even the DoomLegacy engine.
I'm making one right now, hwich I hope goes well, but I also have some great ideas for a Fleetway universe (This one =P) Sonic game.
This thing is, I don't know WHAT kind of game it sound be. I think it should have RPGish features.
The main characters I want playable are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Ebony, (the good ones) and Super Sonic, Metallix, Zachary as unlockable bad story characters.
The story is going to strongly involve the special zone (Chaotix being important NPCs) and goes into the links between the different dimensions, also including Dream world and the Afterlife (I've been reading Sandman =P).
I don't want to say much about the story.
This is only going to be after I've finished my current game though, although there are some StCish references in that too, even though it's based off SegaSonic.
So what do YOU people want from a Fleetway StC based fangame? Note that it won't be total tosh like some fangames can be, but I still won't be able to make Sonic Adventure on my own =P Or from my current fangame for that matter.

I think a Sonic the Comic RPG sounds a lot of fun. I seem to recall someone on one part of the forum suggesting a Shining Force style Sonic game. I think that would be excellent. You could go to different towns such as Emerald Hill, Metropolis City, New Tek City, Megapolis etc. There would be plenty of space for normal battles, boss battles etc. I'm sure any such game would be difficult to put together. Could be a lot of fun though. Good luck.

I'm working on a Knux-solo game at the moment, based on the STC universe, with zachary as the villan. I'm just working on the game engin at the moment, ive got the gliding and punching sorted out but the wall climbing and digging is dam hard. It will be a cross between classic sonic gameplay, the knux sectiond on SA2 but improved and the Chaotix parts. It wont be that tresure hunting based, and will have some 1on1 fights like in Sonic Battle. It will be a side scroller though.

Heh, hope your game goes well Harry I'll look forward to it.
And I've never played Shining Force, what's it like? Keep in mind this will be a 2D game most likely, 3D games are far too difficult, mainly because of all the modelling animation, although for things like big bosses it's quicker to use models, I'm doing that in my current fangame.
I'm NOT using RPG Maker for this, RPG Maker 2003 is actually quite good, but since this is the first proper StC game, I want it to look half decent, and be a little more inventive.
I can't do Final Fantasy style because it's a pain linking commands to arrays to commands in MMF, but I could do a more basic RPG with less of that stuff. Would a Zelda style game work? If Ebony is in it, I need it to be able to handle all kinds of characters, as her emphasis would be on her Chaos Magick rather than speed.

Well it's probably a bit complicated. Basically, it's a normal RPG with towns and stuff, but the battles take place in maps which have an invisible grid. Different characters can move (usually) five, six or seven spaces either way on the grid -- good guys and bad guys. This changes according to land effect. If you're close enough to an enemy you can attack them (or they can attack you). Every character (except some bosses) takes one square on the grid, but some spells can cover several squares. So basically the computer runs through all the heroes and villains in order of their movement rating and you get the chance to move them. It sounds complicated, but it's by far the best RPG battle system I've played. (I never could get into those ones where you'd wander around a map and suddenly the screen would flash and you'd do a little skirmish for 5 minutes, and then 30 seconds later the screen would flash again...)
This would probably be much too complicated for a fan game though.

Yeah, I played a bit of it, reminds me of FF Tactics. That would be hard to to do, and I'm not sure it'll work well with Sonic characters.
I'm going to try and do something totally new, it'll probably be a Side Scrolling RPG (Kind of like Zelda 2) except fast. I don't want to do a platformer, as after making this one, I'm a bit sick of it =P I just can't do loops and crap.

I myself am already involved in Sonic Adventure 3, a fan game over at The Sonic Foundation - I'm the concept artist for it. If you need any help with concept art or any other art at all... *twirls his pencil*. I'm trying to get as many projects together for a portfolio as possible.

Are you ofering help with my next fangame Sonic Fanatic? I could REALLY do with some concept art for my games.
I have one game about 2/3rds of the way through it, it's okay but I just want to hurry up and finish it as soon as possible. But the game after that, im working on the engine for, and I could do with some concept art if your offering to help?

I thought it shut down a while back. Also, what type of game is it, 2D or 3D? I can't wait for the day we start getting 3D fan-games Speaking of, I really should work out how to build one, the models wouldn't be any problem, it'd just be the physics and stuff, hmm... Mike
