Let's be honest, films based on video games are usually rubbish. A few examples are Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (it looked amazing but was over-complicated) and DON'T get me started on Super Mario Bros. But I rather enjoyed Resident Evil. Anyhoo, anybody got any ideas for what games would make a decent movie?
I think Abe's Oddysee and Soul Reaver would be pretty good.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Halo movie, or a Dues Ex one that covers both games

Halo and Silent Hill are currently being done, along with Alone in the Dark. The first two have promise, the third looks godawful. I love Resident Evil: Apocalypse!

Hopefully they'll do halo in CGI, Becuase I don't wanna see John Travolta stuffed into Nightmare Armor's MJOLNIR suit

I love Resident Evil: Apocalypse! Heh, I saw that a couple of nights ago. Very, very daft. Liked all the game references, and the gleefully ludicrous ending. Tazer to the eyes! >_< Also, Sienna Gueillory or however you spell it (Jill) is both HAWT and scarily like Jill. And I was surprised to find that the Comic Relief Guy was actually funny. ;D I really like that film. You can't really fail with a film that has a crack squad of commandos made up of Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi and Roz out of Fraiser.

The final fantasy film is also repetitive, boring and kills off all the good characters. Hardly THAT good.

The main issue I have with the Spirits Within is that, it has absolutely, positively NOTHING to do with Final Fantasy, save for the name. I like it as a movie, but it's not Final Fantasy.

I must say that I am slightly scared about the Halo movie, the best bit about Halo was the gameplay and they can't stick that in a movie. I just feel that the halo world may not fit in well with cinema and it may just be made as an almost B-Movie-ish aliens invade Earth kinda movie. I can only cross my fingers and hope.
Anyone think an Onimusha movie would be pretty cool? And I also agree with the person who said Dues Ex (a darker version of Minority Report springs to mind).

Actually, I hear rumors that there may be a Metroid movie. I liked this at first... then I heard terrible news:
John Whoo is directing it.
NNNOOOOOOO!
I pray that if it is done, Samus will NOT talk. And neither should Ridley. You know what would be the worst thing ever? Ridley does talk, but his voice is done by Arnold Schwarzenegger. >_<

Most of them do suck. Mario Brothers was at best mediocre, Mortal Kombat was very average, and Street Fighter was truly awful. Haven't seen the Tomb Raider movies yet (although the first one had a wicked soundtrack), haven't seen Final Fantasy either, but then I've never played any of the Final Fantasy games.
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game was definately an odd one, a game based on a movie based on a game, and it still sucked apparently (got slaughtered in the reviews and the graphics looks pretty dire). The only good incarnation of the Street Fighter games was the Manga version.
I would love to see Sonic the movie though if it was done properly, ie not with the same god-awful scripts writers that Sonic X has.

Well, I've heard John Woo will directing a Rainbow Six movie so I'll probably be picking out all the military inaccuracies in it when it comes out.
Maybe we need Sonic the Movie with Nigel Kitching as the exec producer

Sonic CD the movie: A 3D movie based on sonic CD Sonic The Movie is as close as we'll get to a Sonic Cd movie. I'd like to see another Sonic movie..Perhaps one with better animation.

The ones he is currently directing you HAVE NOT SEEN, so please shut up! ;D He might be thinking of Uwe Boll (who has a planned 10 videogame-to-movie projects) or Paul WS Anderson, responsible for Resi, MK etc. Plus, John Woo's not the legendary director that people are making him out to be. His last two films (Paycheck and Windtalkers) are famously awful. Pretty much Hard Boiled and Face/Off are the best things the man has done. Don't get your hopes up.

I'm not making him out to be a legend - I'm just pointing out that the man has NEVER directed a videogame movie before... according to imdb.com.
Also, check out The Killer and Bullet in the Head.
