Ohhhh. I saw her in an episode the other day, it was where the aliens with zips on their foreheads were eating people or something.

*Peruses the Guinevere One mini-site thoroughly**Sighs wistfully**Dreams of a time when Britain is conquering the stars and he's just been given a peerage and an appointment as the Governor-General of the U.K.'s Martian Crown Colony* Ooh, now what's the name of that graphic novel that came out a while ago which involved an alternate reality where Britain landed on the moon first? That'd probably be right up your street! If Smithy wasn't so offended by being called a bigot I expect he'd tell us...

Episode was good. Upsides: mucho tension, great aliens, wonderful special effects, good action, great humour in the second half, good mystery surrounding Torchwood, many great lines ("The Lion King" line especially!) and good character material -- particularly around the Doctor's self-discovery. Downsides: pacing was a bit weak with endless "the Doctor's gone!" sob scenes, the humour was weak when Tennant wasn't on screen, and when he was his hyperactivity gives me a headache. The Harriet Jones ending was a bit ham-handed, despite the good "six words" gag, and you could hear the writer having a continuity orgasm a couple of times with all the backstory references. Overall: good fun.

That was "Fantastic!" Harriet Jones, Prime Minister! She thought nobody knew who she was! and the killer christmas tree was cool, but the end, they SO ripped that off of shdaow the hedgehog, I mean, the laser was green as well!

Enjoyed it a lot. The ending with Harriet Jones left me sour though, the Torchwood laser was fine, but the fallout from that just seemed forced and too jutted in to have any resonance. Seems like possible setup for next season as it looked like Harriet was in the "coming soon" preview at the end. I like David Tennant too, I'm definitely interested in seeing how he develops as a character. Hopefully he'll stick around for more than one season. He looks pretty good in that suit too!

It's really odd, that's the second very close to Shadow the Hedgehog effect the show has had. In the episode with Rose's father, those harbinger demons looked very reminiscent of the flying aliens from Shadow. But both were in production at the same time so it's just syncronicity rather than homages or references I think. Oh, forgot to mention how absolutely fantastic the killer christmas tree was! Definitely gets my vote for best scene! ;D Mike

"There's more to see than can ever be seen. More to do than can ever - Oh wait, that's The Lion King..." that made the show for me, not that it was brillant anyway, mainly when the doctor was back, though there were other good bits as well. Excellant show all round, and the christmas tv hightlight. did anyone else take part in the interactive game that was one after, that was brillant, IMO.

Harriet Jones has turned into one of my favourite Who characters thanks to this episode. What a great character.
And a glimpse of UNIT! Wooooohoooo!

"Harriet Jones - Prime Minister!" "argleflarglefnarfnar!" "He says 'yes we know who you are!" ;D Classy - I'd assumed Torchwood might be a reference to the upcoming spinoff but no matter - lots of political referencing going on in this, especially towards the end Also, was it just me, or did Tennant pick up a very 'Cassanova' themed jacket during that scene at the end when he's rummaging through his walk in wardrobe?

Brilliant episode. I enjoyed it muchly. ^_^ The only true downside to the episode was the was it made us humans out to be such [censored]s, blasting apart that ship as it was flying away... I sure hope it's actually meant to be leaning towards something... Wouldn't it be interesting if we became the ultimate bad guy at the end of next series? Would be interesting and an excellent twist!

Torchwood! Theres another Shadow Reference "Mobilise Diablon!" then we get the usual, but sir, its too risky, highly dangerous, prototypeOMGLOLWTF then we got the same kind of reaction in doctor who, they're stealing the Shadow storyline!

Just watched it. Gotta love On Demand.
It was a great episode, loved the Christmas Tree part aswell as the whole scene where the Doctor came back, didn't expect the aliens to kill the General and that scientist guy! Surprised me.
It seems it'll be the same show with Tennant, I was kinda wondering before whether having a new one would make the show less entertaining. Still has the humour though.
Good episode. And Giles is in Season 2!

I enjoyed this special, though I wish the script writers hadnt knocked the doctor out for so long during the episode. It got annoying watching Rose having over-hammed emotional moments over the Doctor. Billie can act but shes not good enough to head up an episode this long as the main character. This new doctor seems like hes gonna be more fun . I w00ted at the Hitchhikers reference "I knew Arthur Dent, nice guy" more plz. Plus the overt Star Wars reference, which was amusing because as the fight started my dad commented on how Stars Wars-ish it was then he got his arm chopped off and I'm like "WOAH total reference!". Also K-9's in the new series, yay! ^___________^ *killed*

The only true downside to the episode was the was it made us humans out to be such [censored]s, blasting apart that ship as it was flying away... Sod that. Harriet was right- the Doctor's not always around, and no responsible leader is going to let a war-mongering race go back out and tell everyone about how great a target Earth is, and how easy it is to conquer when the Doctor's not there. Not to mention that there's no garuantee the Sycorax would never come back for another go.

Seconded. One element of the Eccleston Doctor's character and personality was that the page with "judge not lest ye be judged" had been torn out of his Bible - instances like his intense dislike for David ("Go and experience the culture!" he advises the stripling Companion in The Long Game - when David followed his advice, this was apparently grounds for being evicted to a life of disfigurement) and his reaction to Henry Van Statten ("You've set it [the Dalek] loose!" - how could he, when the two were in another different part of the bunker when the alarm was raised? "Torture" isn't a valid explanation either, as the Dalek would have killed them all even if they'd worshipped it as the god of Utah) showed what an intensely judgemental person he was. Tennant's reaction to the Torchwood cannon is a demonstration that that element has carried over into the Doctor's tenth incarnation. More positively, though, it seems that Tennant's Doctor is no longer hamstrung by the castrating impotence that undermined Eccleston (empty threats to the Editor in The Long Game; Rose saving the day in the premiere episode; the Doctor left looking like a moron holding his plunger in Parting of the Ways) - for all of his leather jackets, bluster and "intense" performance, I don't think that the Ninth Doctor would have been capable of having at it with the Sycorax magician with anywhere near as much drive as the Tenth. I did as well - when they mentioned "Torchwood" I was expecting Captain Jack to come smashing through a plate-glass window with miniguns akimbo! Quite so - and Davies, it's a "motion of censure", not a confidence vote. [/pedant] I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it's actually Series 28! The Master is the master of himself... it's his title! Like how the Doctor is "The Doctor". He's a rival Time Lord and a recurring villain throughout Doctor Who. His last appearances were in the final 1989 story, Survival, (played by Antony Ainley) and the 1996 television film (played by Christopher Lee). As an incidental note, I noticed in the series preview at the end of the Episode that a variety of feline anthropomorphs featured - could the cat-people from Survival be making a return? It's been a while since we were able to enjoy one of those The X Doctors romps (although admittedly the quality has been variable in the past), and it would be good to see Tennant team up with some of his past selves (in this case, Sylvester McCoy). I also enjoyed how we're not being belaboured with an "updated" K9 but a warm, continuity-friendly revival of the original. Interestingly, I've been reading some reviews of The Christmas Invasion on Outpost Gallifrey and some are already suggesting that David Tennant might be on course to topple the mighty Tom Baker as the greatest Doctor, and that this episode is on par with the famous City of Death... let's hope he stays on for as long as the Elder Baker did (a handsome seven years), at least!

and the 1996 television film (played by Christopher Lee). Christopher Lee? He would RULE as the Master! But no, for the movie they took a more Arnie approach, with the coat and shades. The Master was played by Eric Roberts in the movie.

Whoops, you're right. My mistake - I don't know where Christopher Lee came from (especially considering that he only bears a slight parity to Roberts)! Such a high-profile actor as Lee probably wouldn't condescend to a cheap television film of Auntie's anyway But then again... is the Doctor Who casting director a lurker on this forum?
