He specifically said 2006 Cardiff? Because that would mean Torchwood is taking place the year before Season 2 of Doctor Who, and likely pre-TCI.

I can't remember where exactly but I do remember much of an interview I read about Torchwood in the run-up to the premiere of Series 2 - within the last couple of months. In it, there's a discussion on the role of Captain Jack in Torchwood and how it's set in modern day Cardiff.
It's clear that Captain Jack isn't a key-role in the creation or sustaining of Torchwood considering we now know it to be set up in 1870 - which does mean that it's safe for the TCI-Attack to be fully under Torchwood control without Captain Jack being a part of that at all. Which, really, would have to be the explanation for that. Otherwise he would have known about The Doctor and Rose being there and more than likely would not have destroyed the ship.
I know for a fact that filming doesn't even start until the summer - which coincidentally is also when the next Christmas Special will be filmed too - so any events that unfold in this series are likely to have an influence on Torchwood when it starts off. Similarly, one can assume that judging by their popularity and reception on debuting in this series of Who, that having some familliar friends and foes reappear in Torchwood wouldn't be that unlikely, what with Cassandra's return last week alongside the Face of Boe.

Meh...I wasnt impressed by the episode, too many things just felt as though they'de been placed there to just ebb the episode along. The writing just felt generally poor for this one.
Wolf was very nicely rendered though and animation very very well. Sliiiiight problem with the background blending, but as it was in dark areas all the time it doesnt make much difference.
Acting was much better this episode though.
And yes...did the writers forget about the Monks or something?
*is headbutting the TV at the annoying all-too-obvious wire filled sequence*

The story was very tense and exciting, although it felt like a bit of a fluff piece in retrospect. Not much in the way of character drama or that sort of thing. Although I'm looking forward to Torchwood, I can't help but feel it's a bit unfair for all these kids who are getting it built up so blatantly and who then aren't going to be able to watch the series because it's a post watershed thing. I think BBC Wales are going to be responsible for thousands of bedtime tantrums across the country.

First person to comment? Go me. Brilliant episode, best one of the series yet (if you don't count Christmas Invasion). Delightfully creepy - name me one other show that could get away with showing (not directly, but still) an innocent child being eaten alive at 7.30 on a Saturday evening. The baddies were nifty, though the creepiest of bat-things cannot hold a candle to Anthony Head being quietly sinister. Nice stuff with Sarah-Jane and Rose (I've never seen an SJ ep before, which Doctor(s) did she travel with?), nice to see Mickey back and also getting to do some travelling himself, and if a slightly camp robot dog with a laser beam for a nose is wrong than I don't want to be right. Also glad that they didn't spell out the "fat kid isn't allowed to eat the chips so isn't affected" plot in agonising detail. It's nice to see a TV show respecting its viewers' reasoning abilities for once. Couple of downers: rebuilding K9 at the end took away a lot of the poignancy (though if I'd written the episode I'd've been tempted to myself, so there you go), and the director got a bit carried away with slanty camera angles and two almost identical bits where the kids work at the computers and it is enhanced through the overuse of flashing computer screens and EXTREMELY DRAMATIC MUSIC. One last thing: hurrah for the fat kid!

You know, in real life he wouldn't get congratulated lol.
Anyway..wasn't the master.
Great episode though. Loved Rose and Sarah Janes argument on who's seen more exciting things. K-9! Never watched it before, but he rules lol.
Liked the ending Sarah Jane says "He replaced you with a new model... he does that." haha.

I loved this episode. It was purely fantastic.
The fact that Tony Head is a pure acting God who hasn't had a good role since Buffy is even better. It was fantastically dramatic where it needed to be and extremely emotive when the relationship between Sarah Jane and the Doctor was addressed.
Also, Torchwood rears its head again on Mickey's computer - who wants to start putting bets on where it'll be next week?
One thing i'd have changed was bringing K9 back at the end. Despite never seeing a single episode with the tin dog, when it came to his sacrifice in the school, it still managed to choke me up. Having a new one whirr out from behind the TARDIS at the end was just a cop out that ruined the effect of the previous scene.
Am I the only one who found it odd for Mickey to ask to come along after turning down the opportunity not so long ago?
Other than those niggling itty bits, I loved this episode through and through. The last 2 eps were decent enough, but in my eyes, this is the REAL start of Season 2.
(Additional: We didn't see Tony Head die, and for some reason he wasn't affected by the oil. Left open for a Cassandra/Slitheen-like return much?)

He miiiiight think he's got another chance with Rose after the whole "I told you so" speech earlier on. Fantastic episode, best so far. This series is outdoing the first in my opinion.

It should not be possible for a person to open their mouth that wide.

Great story, good momentum, brilliant performances from Head, and Tennant and Clark were both on top forms in their roles. Only down side was the Sarah Jane plot. I found her irritating, K-9 only marginally less so (I couldn't decide if it was a good thing he was so underused), and Rose only a little less than that (and mostly because she was the butt of a lot of jokes). The relationship subtext worked brilliantly as subtext, but it's becoming increasingly gauche and ham-handed. I look forward to Mickey in the TARDIS, and given all that he's been through since the last time he had a chance to go, I don't find it at all strange.

I haven't seen any of the old episodes with K-9 in, but tell me his voice was not that bad back then?
Wait, that was the 70s... it was that bad.

Nice episode! Not much to say that other people haven't already said - but I enjoyed it muchly - Head was on top malicious form I thought - I rather hope he makes a return at some point Also, one of my favorite bits of dialogue was with Mickey and K9 "Don't you have a lock pick?" "We are in a car" "Lasers?" "We are in a car" "Wait a minute...we're in a car!" Classy

My favourite so far I think. Takes a certain amount of confidence in your viewers to drp in a chacracter from a former series with a barely word of explanation for the new set of viewers they seem to have be accumulating.
The interplay between Sarah Jane and Rose was not overcooked, and I laughed out loud myself when the had their 'bonding' moment then the Docotr walked in and they laugh at him.

K9!
That ep was by far the best ep i've seen in the new series, I didn't realy liek the 1st one. Had no real opening to the series. The face of boe thing was really annoying.
