Twice this episode. Seemingly you missed the first one =P. What was the first one? Not gonna say =O K, when Rose heard the news broadcast on her phone, the story after that was about 'The Torchwood Institute'.

FTW. Incidentally, parallel universe Rose > Real Rose.
I'm also toying with the idea that the Doctor may accidentally take Ricky insteady of Micky.

I don't think it takes a great leap of intellect following this week's confidential to assume that Rickey's gonna die and Mickey's gonna take his place in this universe. And as far as the ep goes, I love it. Fantastically creepy and surprising - just perfect. ^^ I love the Cybermen too, they just have so much presence about them in this. When the army of them marches towards the screen you actually feel worried. If you saw the old ones dandering towards you, you'd just laugh. Bring on next week's.

I really enjoyed this, much much better the last weeks which really was far to rushed.
really enjoying the micky, ricky thing, they are both (facial) so different I think it's a huge credit to the guy as an actor how well he did it. I loved the lion sleep tonight/ homeless people bit, becuase of the way it worked. rose the dog, which really made it for me, only that (or a different actress playing rose, could have worked imo) I thought Jackie being, so dissmissive of rose, a nice touch to, as it's the normal universe jackie, is much more common down to earth and would hate herself, which I found intriguing

Absolutely loved the Mickey stuff. And that bit with The Lion Sleeps Tonight being played over people being processed... brrrrr!

Nice episode, the acting of the supporting role characters was a bit patchy at times. But overall it was quite enjoyable and the Cybermen did kick ass.

These Cybermen kill you by touching you. They have big waists so they can't bed down. Sorted.

I was hoping the Cybermen would spout out at least one "Resistance is futile", since they deserve to use the phrase. I'd also like to see one Cyberman briskly walk through a wall (storming through windows is all well and good, but walking through a wall would have more impact).
But yeah, what's up with the Cybermen refusing the surrender? From what I've seen they're usually all for "Okay if you surrender, we'll process you and give you a chance to escape and foil our maligant plans!" I'm glad to see that particular weakness has just been 'deleted'.
And yes, the minor characters had dodgy acting. But, given that this is Doctor Who, it could've been far worse.

@ricky/Micky: Throughout the first series T3h Doctor would insist that Micky's name was in fact Ricky. X3's hit the nail on the head here. @torchwood: Torchwood have been mentioned EVERYWHERE. You lot ned to pay more attention. Anywho, their series is coming soon. Uber-spoiler: Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who! @cybermen: Meh. They really didn't seem very threatening. @the Episode. Bleh. Parallel Earth was cool-ish. Very predictable ep. Slightly crappy Cybermen.

Is it just me who spotted a flaw in the episode?
At the beginning when Rose is looking on her phone to see what her alternate self is like, she can't find herself. Then she says "Mum, Dad, Mickey. They're all here, but I'm not" but, Mickey doesn't exist on this Earth. He's called Ricky.

Presumably she misread Rickey as Mickey.

Maybe she didn't know his name was Ricky and just thought he was an evil Mickey?

I'm glad that Rose didnt decide to muddle this time like she did when they went to the past. For once I could kinda feel for her and the scene with her father and her mother were quite good for her character. You can see how shocked she is to have someone who is her mother (sorta) talking to her in the way that she did.
Cybermen were badass, the cliffhanger at the end of the ep had me at the edge of my seat and I was all "WHHHHA? BUT THEY SURRENDERED D :"
I did see a preview for next episode in Doctor Who Confidential. It looks like a heavily Mickey centered episode by the looks of it. Which is nice, good to see Mickey finally gaining a bit more spine.

Well, sort of her daughter. The idea of what he and Jackie could have had will probably put them both back together at the end.

I disagree, I reckon she'll keep schtum. Surely she's learned her lesson from the last time she met her dad and they got stuck in a church surrounded by flying monsters.

Well surely it's going to have to be explained to Rickey that Mickey is from an alternate universe? So if that's not going to rip a hole in time and space, then Rose telling Pete that in another dimension she's his daughter isn't going to either.

finally got around to seeing it - it was alright, though not my fav episode of this series so far - Trigger really came across as too much of a barmy 80's villain for my liking, wise cracking and manical laughter a go go - but there you go...I guess its always nice for a bit of variety I approve of saving the main villains till almost right at the end of the episode, did a great job of building anticipation I thought The Jackie handlebar headgear was a clever touch I thought - much like going some way to justify the Dalek's plungers Plot holes: how come Rose didn't recognise the Cybermen when she's seen a Cyberman head in that Dalek episode? Mind you, I guess that was a more retro version and also ages ago Also, where did Rose get her new look phone from? Or did I miss that? Questions: This whole "surrendering to be processed" thing - is that like the Cyberman equivilent of not being able to climb stairs then? I'm also unsure wether or not Cybus industries actually did create the cybermen in this universe, or if its all some dastardly plot on the Earth 2 Cybermen's part, manipulating Trigger for evil ends - any thoughts? Predictions: I think Earth 2 Jackie might die - just a hunch

Trigger really came across as too much of a barmy 80's villain for my liking, wise cracking and manical laughter a go go That's why he's so great! "But how will you tell them FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE?" All evidence seems to point to Lumic creating the Cybermen, who will almost certainly get out of his control. Though since he's obsessed with becoming a Cybe and wants to force everyone else to be one, the only way the Cybermen can do a Dalek to his Davros is to tell him he's incompatible.

That's why he's so great! "But how will you tell them FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE?" ha - I guess - like I say, they can't all be dastardly evil types - mad only fools and horses characters should get a stab too All evidence seems to point to Lumic creating the Cybermen, who will almost certainly get out of his control. Though since he's obsessed with becoming a Cybe and wants to force everyone else to be one, the only way the Cybermen can do a Dalek to his Davros is to tell him he's incompatible. I kinda like that idea - a proper "nooooooooooooooooo!" from him would be pretty cool I guess I'm still a little confused though - I'm not an expert on Cybermen, but I understand they were originally a bunch of humans on another earth like planet in our solar system that pulled a space 1999 and got blasted off into space and in order to survive their harsh conditions they became more and more cybornetic. If Trigger came up with their design than that would suggest a brand new origin for them - except for the fact that the doctor recognises them as cybermen and tries the "surrender" trick on them only for it to fail. It could be argued that because this is a new version of the old show, their original origin isn't canon - but Doctor Who has spent this series deliberatly building up the links to the old shows (K9, Sarah Jane etc) I guess the other get out clause is that it's Earth 2 and things could have happened slightly diffrent here - but that's a bit of a cop out answer I think I'm hoping it gets revealed Trigger was "inspired" or influenced by someone - a higher power or such, to make them - but I guess we'll see on Saturday

The original Cybermen origin (fleshed out considerably in the Fifth Doctor audio drama Spare Parts) is that they were humans living on Earth's twin planet of Mondas - a world almost exactly like Earth but which we didn't know about because it's always on the exact opposite orbit to us or something. Mondas' orbit got mucked up and went further from the Sun, so in order to survive the people started augmenting themselves with machinery. They kept doing this bit by bit until they ended up as the Cybermen, all their humanity and emotion gone. (Until the 80s Cybermen started showing emotions, but a Who book retconned this as the Cybermen faking emotions to unnerve their enemies) That's why the original Tenth Planet Cybermen look like guys in bandages with metal bits attached - they are. As time went on, they became ever more robotic until there's very little organic bits left.
The alternate reality Cybermen are a completely new batch with a new agenda - the originals are driven by the need to survive (which involves converting others into new Cybermen), the new ones are created as a shiny upgrade (which is slightly scarier when you think about it). The Doctor recognises them as Cybermen because the principle behind them is the same and they conviniently look something like the 'real' Cybermen.

Dear god that was poor...
I'm going to pretend I live on a parallel earth where I never heard a silver ultimate Iron-man cry out for Gareth. Let us never speak of this deviation from form again starting...
now.
Next week looks good, Maureen Lipman stealing peoples faces and the Doctor with a quiff, quality stuff.
