I don't have time for a full review at the moment, but I have to say that the Cyber Controller, even though his throne of plastic piping was fairly ridiculous, nonetheless was more convincing a villain than Lumic himself - which is quite embarrassing, really. When the Controller posited to the Doctor "have you ever known grief; and fear; and RAGE?", you could sense the boiling frustration and venomous fury straining to burst out from behind the electronic grate of its voice. All Lumic did, by contrast, was wheeze and gasp "I speak... in a deep... voice and... I manage a... corporation! I'M SO EV- *hack-splutter-kaf-kaf-kof* -IL!"

True, but Lumic was far more fun.

I thought it was stupid that the Cybermen were allergic to gold in the old show and I'm glad that gold didn't play a part in killing them this time around. The Cybermen are supposed to be appearing again before the series ends, I just hope gold doesn't kill them then. Cuz really, how the heck can gold suffocate cybernetic monsters who don't even breathe anyway?

Apparently Peter Kay's going to be in it next month, playing a monster who absorbs people into his skin.

That's quite, quite wonderful. He seems to have combined the YMCA dance with Macaulay Culkin impressions. Gawd bless 'im.

One of these days I am going to cover the Doctor Who theme. Although it's going to be hard to better Orbital's version, which they used to play in Loves (the only alternative music club in Chester) in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Incidentally, I was browsing YouTube for Doctor Who stuff and I love the music video montages with Christopher Eccleston and Billie in them. Particularly the Pink one.

Ooh, tell us what scene you're in, then we can all look out for you. I doubt a television show will seriously tell us that television is evil. They DID do that in the last series, though. What with the Big Brother House Of Death and stuff.

Sorry for the double post, but was anyone else disappointed by tonight's episode? It looked and started off promising, but was a bit of a let-down. I think it was the bit with Tommy's family that did it for me. Also, it's very anti-climactic after the Cybermen.

It's very stupid. Is it just me or are the villains in this series completely unable to act?

Coo, what a brill episode! Mark Gattis, you beuty you Maureen Lipman did a lovely turn I thought - mind you "feeeed meeeeeee!" got a little old towards the end... And surprisingly, no Torchwood reference this week (that I was aware of) - thought the people collecing the no face people might have been involved, but there you go Also - nice touch with trapping the Wire on a video cassette - despite the fact that they shouldn't even have been invented yet... quick trip back to the Tardis perhaps? (would explain where he got his trenchcoat from though )

Wow... that was... atrocious. Maureen Lipman is great, the idea of the face-sucking thing was good, the final father/son scene was nice in concept (despite the dad having fallen off the back of a pantomime). But the plot was barely comprehensible nonsense with a deus ex machina ending, some cringeworthy overacting by Tennant and some cringe-worthy lines, no emotional continuity re: Mickey, almost no humour, a slow and boring climax, and bland guest characters. Definitely the worst episode they've done yet.
Plus side? Next week looks awesome.

Electronic Maureen Lipman will eat your face!
After the abomination that was that cyberman nonsense I'm glad a talented writer like the lovely Mister Gatiss is back to offer some nice visual concepts, classy villian, and an impish mystery investigating Rose.
Also utter respect for Tennant's quiff.
Not perfect by any means (the domestic strife on the doorstep scene didn't work), but definitely a step in the right direction after last weeks experience of laughing in disbelief...
Just found out while researching how to spell Gatiss that he has also written a biography of Frankenstein director (and semi personal hero of mine) James Whale, I'm now off to search Amazon.
Acclaimed biography of a classic director vs. Air Steward sex dromedy for sky one, place your bets...

I thought it was fun enough, nothing special really but i'd hardly call it awful.
And there WAS a Torchwood reference - but I can't blame anyone for missing it. Detective Inspector Bishop (it's there on his collar!) mentioned it while the Doctor was nattering away about Rose after she was brought in.
No idea what they were talking about it though.
And yes. Next week's looks [censored]ing awesome.
Also, if anyone watched Confidential they let slip not too subtly that the fun that we saw the Doctor and Rose having in this episode ("too much fun?") is doomed to have "someone pay the price" at some point. Which could be.... interesting.

What does the name Detective Inspector Bishop have to do with Torchwood?
