Just finished A Spot Of Bother by Mark Haddon My mum's reading that just now. Might borrow it from her once I'm done with the ever-increasing piles of books that I want to read.

I studied that one in uni. 'Tis pretty good. Preferred Faustus though.
I is reading Murakami's Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, his latest short-story collection. Some of the stories are just too arbitrary and confuse me, but a lot of them are really good.

Ah, Faustus. Great piece of writing, there.

This. Chose to do it, alongside Heinlein's Beyond This Horizon, as my independant literary analysis & comparison coursework. Both novels reach the same conclusion through the exact opposite process. Quite a good read, both of them.

It's a little bit slow so far I'm finding. Though it amazes me how people like Huxley and HG Wells managed to predict/fantasise about the future in such a way that almost seems plausible.

Beyond This Horizon seems closer to reality than they ever did, tbh. Heinlein was so good at predicting he predicted the waterbed before it was invented. So now no-one can patent it.

Don't look too hard - it's been out of print for a decade or two, and after 2 months of actively searching, my teacher couldn't find a copy. I had to lend him my 40 year old edition. Of course, I looked on Amazon and found about 40 copies, starting at 50p...

I often trawl the Edinburgh second-hand book shops, they're awesome and a bit like Black Books.

I JUDGE YOU.
Lately I have read: Markus Zusak's The Book Thief (excellent - a bit too "Look at me I am angling for an award", but well-written enough for that not to matter), Xiaolu Guo's A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers (pretty good, but not nearly as clever as it thinks it is) and now I am re-reading Murakami's The Wind-up Bird Chronicle (still brilliant).

Samface, ever read The Shadow of the Wind? Since you're into all that international lit.

I have, about two years or so ago. Borrowed it off me dad.
I enjoyed it a lot, although the ending was a bit over-the-top. I've got a feeling I may have mentioned it somewhere back near the beginning of this thread.
EDIT: Just checked, no I didn't.

I read it about 2 and a half years ago also, just rereading it now. Very enjoyable and hard to put down, even in a time when I'm having trouble getting sucked in by books. And yes, the ending is silly, but it's also a glorious OTT resolution that's actually quite nice to see compared to all these modern restrained-by-realism books. Wouldn't want to see it very often though.

Shadow of the Wind? Hmmm, I wonder if Dio read the book. ;D

Actually called La Sombra del Viento, so I doubt it, but hey! Also, the Dio song probably came first.
