Johnny Lightfoot, remember him? He died. Chaos killed him. Well, before his death he had loads of screens showing him get his weapon/baton thingy broken.
But who remembers the one time that he was kidnapped by an alien being called Shayde. This creature possessed Johnny, and took his form. Then, for an unclear amount of issues, he replaced Johnny with the evil hooded alias Agent X, who at various points intruded the minor stories to cause a little havoc (he went to the Underwater Zone/City and gave the fish people a potion so they could breathe on land and kill Sonic in the name of Robotnik).
I know Johnny was eventually saved from this existence, but what I want to know is how and when? Does anyone have scans of his liberation? Does anyone know what happened to the alien Shayde? I just want to know if anyone out there knows anything….
Do tell.

hey, i've JUST read that one. Its a fantastic story. The cliffhanger was really nasty, I made my mate read it so I wasn't alone to suffer. She's no sonic fan but she couldn't wait till the next issue. come to think of it, that was quite cruel of me.

Shayde was one of a race of alien creatures who lived in a shadow dimension. Shayde found a way to create a portal to mobius, that was when he touched Johnny, copied his DNA and sent Johnny to the shadow dimension in his place. Agent X captured the freedom fighters and Sonic. He transported Sonic to the shadow dimension where Sonic met the real Johnny again and was copied himself. It all ended in a pretty boring anti-climax where Sonic destroyed the 'black crystal' which, in turn, destroyed the shadow dimension, thus Sonic and Johnny were returned to the real world and the Shadow creatures were (presumably) wiped out of being...
Ta daa... STC trivia 'r' us.

I often felt that Sonic was never trapped helpless in a situation like that nearly often enough... I love the part in his character where he stays sarcastic and argumentative to the end, even when the villain has him strapped inescapably to some evil device with his hands on the lever...

and i'll bet you that not one single villian (save, the metallix's who were single minded anyway) would actually try killing sonic while he was knocked out.
villians.. bah. evil "genious" is certainly a loosly-used term.

Lew Stringer originally intended for Agent X to actually be Johnny turned bad. In the end though he copped out and turned it into an alien shape-shifter. I think he decided it would be disrespectful to alter the character so significantly when it wasn't really his character to do that with. Although, to be fair, Nigel hadn't done anything with him in a couple of years...

The foreshadowing began in #122 (and ran through several of the stories following), but it only came into the foreground in #131-132.

Thanks for the collection of posts here, telling me what I needed to know. I liked the idea of Shayde, but apparently his race was killed off... Ha. I've seen villians return from worse than that. Anyway, thanky guys. Especially Hyperknux Sir for the scans.
