I know those 2 words fill many people here with a desire to smash stuff, but I thought that there were a few pretty decent 'complete stories' in STC's time.
My favourite is "The Forgotten Badnik" from issue 140... the artwork really was astounding, Richard Elson at the top of his form. Any others?

I was always fond of "Smokey and the Badnik", from issue...80-something, I think. Again, fantastic Richard Elson artwork, and a good script. Plus the last panel made me chuckle. Smokey: I didn't know you could talk! Badnik: You never asked!

I think STC had a load of excellent complete stories, starting with Nigel's early ones like Pirates of the Mystic Cave, The Sentinel, through Lew's Metamorphia and The Pretender. Then there's the run in the 70s with Smokey, Big Decision, Plasma and Voice of the People. Boiling Point in Sonic's World. The first Super solo. The Tails 4-pager illustrated by Carl Flint for Christmas '95. The Detour. House on the Hill. The Haunted Zone. New Year Out. Splitzoid.
I'm sure there are loads I've missed anyway.

The Detour. wow. I had almost forgotten about that one. Thanks, Ed. I loved that story. as a rule, i'm not all that fond of complete stories, as they're quite obviously not as epic as 3+ parters. But The Detour definatley ranks high.

I think sometimes the complete stories were that much more efficient and powerful for having less space. The multi-parters read well collected but Nigel did some great stuff in short frames. Lew too, but I think Lew was probably steered too closely by the editor.
(Of course, now I completely understand where Deb was coming from with wanting complete stories. In fact, now it's me pushing for complete stories a lot of the time...)

yes, well I hope you won't take offense to this, but I think STC-O is probably better-suited for complete stories, due to the amount of time between issues. I mean, waiting 6 weeks for part2 of a story does get tedious after a while.

The Detour was OK. Yeah, I suppose that would be my favourite, followed closly by "Black Christmas".

Turbo: I see what you mean, although I do hope to tell some larger stories too. Hopefully the story will have enough twists and turns that it will still keep people interested.

#75-79 formed a run of excellent one-shots by Nigel Kitching and Richard Elson (and Rob Corona for #79). Personally I think that was where the comic hit its peak. The first was completely unconnected to anything, #76 and #79 stood as epilogues to the whole Metallix mega-arc, and #77-78 were two parts of the overall premise of a world under Robotnik's rule.
#175-184 were also, technically, "complete stories", but really they were parts of a whole: three two-part stories and one four-parter.

Im more of a story arc man myself. While I appreciate the odd good complete story I prefer to see plots develope over a long time.

I think the two compliment each other. Each has its own advantages. While a self-contained story is harder to write well, it always provides an accessible entry point, it makes the story arcs seem all the more important, and they extra effort means they can occasionally outshine the extended stories. And of course, they can be run in any order.

Splitzoid was good. Also most of the stories in the 'Time Zone'. Exploring the new zones and such...

I liked the story in about the issue 90 ish. It was about "the incredible Bulk" was an amusing p*ss-take of the Hulk. Plus although this was a complete story I liked the fact that it continued the current Arc by Sonic being trapped in the special Zone

For me I'd say Day Of the Death Egg ranks as one of my faves. Amazing artwork and the way it made you think Sonic, Tails and the Emerald Hill Zone had all been destroyed was great. Also the fact that it shows just what the Death Egg was capable of and what would've happened if it hadn't been destroyed. Also served as a nice prologue to Count Down to Disaster.
