NEVER! The awsomeness of Metroid is unmatched! Its just that there are a lot of gullible people. it is a good game but there are so many others which beat it. and I think I may have got my GC for the same reasons as you Jamie j, but now it seems that those very reasons are headding over to xbox and ps2

There's reasons to buy each one.

Im trying to think of some games which run along the same lines as it which are much better... Tomb raider 1 (before you say its old so are sonic 1, dynamite headdy and they are considered better then abe the most recent platform game) red faction metal gear solid Halo and if someone gives me a definative genre for Metroid I'll be able to think up some more. something tells me we have someone here defending his brand new GC game.

Tomb raider 1 (before you say its old so are sonic 1, dynamite headdy and they are considered better then abe the most recent platform game) TR was [censored]. I played a demo and didn't like it. So thats why I didn't get it. THAT'S A JOKE, RIGHT? Ah, now Metal Gear is a very popular game series, and for good reasons. But I find it slow-paced. Alright, when I said "unmatched" prehaps I over-exaggerated. I played Halo at a friends and I enjoyed it very much. However, I just couldn't see the novelty of it. I had Metroid Prime since it CAME OUT. Which was the 21 of March, 2003, and it still remains to be my #1, SO THERE.

"TR was[censored]. I played a demo and didn't like it. So thats why I didn't get it."
Tomb raider revolutionised the 3D adventure genre and opened up a whole new version of videogaming. and you cannot judge a tomb raider game by playing a demo you need to play the whole game and tomb raider is brilliant its only when it reached number 3 did it start to stutter.
"THAT'S A JOKE, RIGHT?"
Red faction gave us the Geo mod technology which enabled a more realistic playing environment for the first person shooter. and its one of the best first person games around.
"Ah, now Metal Gear is a very popular game series, and or good reasons. But I find it slow-paced."
Metal gear solid has won best game of the year awards all around the videogame spectrum. It set a new bar for videogames and is still great. it blends action, stealth and tension better then any other game around... and you find it slow paced? thats a joke right.
"Alright, when I said "unmatched" prehaps I over-exaggerated. I played Halo at a friends and I enjoyed it very much. However, I just couldn't see the novelty of it."
Niether did I but its still better then Metroid Prime.
"I had Metroid Prime since it CAME OUT. Which was the 21 of March, 2003, and it still remains to be my #1, SO THERE."
well there you go you've proved my point! the only reason you are dismissing all these things is that its your favourite game at the moment. the moment you get a new game of some quality you'll say that metroid isnt your favourite game.
also give me the genre for metroid and I'll think up some more titles that beat it.

I got Half-Life for my 15th Birthday (which was earilier this year) after I got Metroid Prime. And MP is still my favourite, beat that. You can judge a game by a demo. I have played the Jedi Knight II demo and enjoyed it. And the main game itself is just as great. I played Red Faction at "The Playhouse" (a games store in Southport), and found it fun, but not ground breaking. What you said about MGS is true, no denying it, its not boring. But I said slow-paced because of the sneaking round. I mean, come on! I know realism's popular these days but I think that was going to far. A lame excuse. And you know it. Judgeing by what you say about these others, I don't think you haven't played any of the Metroid games.

"I got Half-Life for my 15th Birthday (which was earilier this year) after I got Metroid Prime. And MP is still my favourite, beat that. " lol so your defending your favourite game! you just admited it again! because its your favourite game you wont hear a bad word against it, hence why you dismiss all the other suggestions Ive made. "You can judge a game by a demo. I have played the Jedi Knight II demo and enjoyed it. And the main game itself is just as great. " No you cant... The heart of darkness demo wowed people but the game was terrible, postal was to be the manhunt of its time however the final game was drastically different and much more disapointing, demos always have stuff that gets cut out so you cant judge a game by its demo just because you have been lucky, the games can differ greatly from the demo you play. "I played Red Faction at "The Playhouse" (a games store in Southport), and found it fun, but not ground breaking." Yes it is... geo mod technology was born with this game, multiplayer mode is much more tactful then most modern first person games, but since you dont seem to have played it outside of the videogames store there is no way for you to tell how great it is, and since you've likely played more modern first person shotters you wont enjoy this one (the final fantasy theory, 5/7 is the best (according to the die hard fans) but play 10 first and you'll hate the others because of graphics and other modern features) "What you said about MGS is true, no denying it, its not boring. But I said slow-paced because of the sneaking round. I mean, come on! I know realism's popular these days but I think that was going to far." What even the hind d fights? the running up the stairs shooting bit? metal gear fight? the final fight with the machine gun truck? hell you can if you want play the game without going stealthy, its both challenging and kick ass fun. "A lame excuse. And you know it." No to me it was a first person shooter with lots of features but I didnt see why it has become legendary to x box gamers but I can see why it beats met. "Judgeing by what you say about these others, I don't think you haven't played any of the Metroid games." Sorry to disapoint you but I have done, and I liked them but I dont think they are "unmatched by any other game" which is what this discussion is about.

Can you two just give it a break already. This topic is for Tucker to choose a games console to buy, not for your pathetic argument about the quality of Metroid Prime. Either make a new topic or shut up.

Actually since its apart of the discussion, so I'll keep talking and its a relivent discussion because it aids deciding on a system as a discussion about 1 game and comparing it to the quality of the games avaiable for other systems helps to decide a final choice.

Maybe so, but im right, we are discussing wether Metroid Prime is as you put it unmatched, that would give clear indication to go get a gamecube if it has a game that unbeatable by anything. however me throwing questions into that mix and other examples promts discussion about what great games each console has which links to the question which cosole should I get? the discussion of games for each system is a vallied argument,
Had I called you a poo poo head and you called me a jaffacake jelly belly then maybe I'd understand why it was offensive. but the only person being offensive here is ninja, and I dont like rude people.

um...can I just say, demos often arent an accurate representation of the full version game because they are usually released while the game itself is still in development. And as we know, last minute changes can be made (they left out the final level and boss in Soul Reaver 1 as they couldnt be arsed to delay the release date!). Demos are also just one or maybe two levels. You dont know what upgrades or whats going to happen in later levels, which you may enjoy. So no, a demo is just a teaser, just to show you what sort of thing to expect once the game is ready for release. Anyways, for actual games, why are you arguing?! Theres so many genres of game out there, different people are bound to like some and hate others. My personal opinion is that Tomb Raider 1 and 4 are the best games Ive played. The others are a bit pants! Metroid Prime is the best game I have on GC! I dunno, maybe subconciously coz the main character is female in both I like those games!!

Buying a entire console for one game is completely idiotic, so you discussing metroid prime being unmatched is off subject.

(raises hand) Of course we wanted to, (same with sega cd), but most of us didnt. Because paying 200-100 for one game is stupid. Myself, I bought gc for many reasons, all of nintendo's main stream games as well as other games.

Well at a young and tender age I couldnt afford to buy a 32X or a MegaCD. But now I have Sonic CD for the PC and I bought the GC and Sonic SA2 and MegaCollection coz I could afford it! ;D I wanted to find my Mega Drive and take it to Uni so my mates could play MicroMachines! lol! But I cant seem to find it so I bought a GC when I saw MegaCollection had been released! I bought an XBox originally for Munch's Oddysee! It was originally planned for PS2 but later became an XBox exclusive! I got Munch and Hunter:the Reckoning with the Xbox and soon discovered it had far better graphics than the PS2.

I assume this is a "best console ever" thread, cos it's 9:45am, and Ive been awake for over 24 hours now, so I cba to read through. But.... Amiga 500+, no doubt. Technically a computer, I suppose, so second place goes to..... SNES/PSX tied. Both had incredible games, only SNES RPGs were harder to get hold of.
