Had a go at the demo of The Wonderful 101. It's... odd. I can't seem to get used to the control.
Also, DuckTales Remastered. I have to ask myself; why is this game so revered and fondly-remembered? I've found the controls clunky, enemies show and respawn without any warning, and half the time the sodding pogo attack cuts out for no reason or just doesn't work. Was it like this in the original?
So yeah, aside from the DuckTales nostalgia (and even then the cutscenes really break up the flow of the game) and some gorgeous animation, I don't see what all the fuss was ever about.

Super Mario Sunshine. Decided to try and get 100% on this for about the fifth time. I think I'll do it this time, on the bright side! Problem is, I don't think I'll ever want to play it again afterwards. So so glad they packed the 100 coin [censored] in in the Galaxy games - the 100 purple coins were all right with me as you wouldn't get 98 sodding coins then learn that there were literally none left in the level. Grar.

Jisei and Kansei. Both pretty captivating and well executed murder-mystery VNs. Still got Yousei to go yet.
Also got my first booster pack on Steam just now, for Beat Hazard. Bad news is, they were all duplicates. Ah well, onto the market with them.

Steamworld Dig. Lovely little Metroid/Dig Dug/Spelunky cross, and probably the best 3DS eShop game I've played.

Luigi's Mansion 2. REALLY baffled by this game. It's excellent! It's got a great atmosphere, tons of laughs, lots of devious little secrets, and some truly excellent level design in the vein of Metroid Fusion. ...But it doesn't seem to want to admit it. The only thing I would change about the game is removing the explicit mission structure - stop E. Gadd calling you back to the bunker after every mission, and let the player explore at his/her own pace. I mean, I'd keep the missions the way they are! That's why the Fusion comparison is so apt - you complete your objective, the map changes to compensate, allowing you to return to old areas more easily and opening up new ones. This is pulled off with such skill and ease that it's breathtaking. It's just a shame that the game then goes "right, back to the bunker so we can grade you and stop you exploring". The fact that only one Boo shows up per mission doesn't help that either. I've been in the situation where I solve the Boo puzzle and nothing happens. Then I solve the exact same puzzle in a different mission and - surprise! - I'm rewarded with a Boo. It really does confuse me just from a design standpoint. It's designed in one way but executed in another.

Luigi's Mansion 2. Warmed to it, and I can kinda see why they went with the mission structure... but I still think the alternative would have been preferable, if only to minimise interruptions and allow you to save whenever you liked. Anyway, that aside, an incredible game. The first 'must-own' 3DS game that doesn't have the whopping great 'remake' asterisk sitting next to it.

Rayman Legends. I don't get many chances to play the game these days, but from what I've played so far the wait, as unendurable as it was, was well worth it. This game is bloody fantastic. There's so much content and it's always throwing new surprises at you. I love it.
However, I'm still concerned that the game only getting released a week before GTA V has damaged its chances of success. Most people will only be able to afford one or the other, and call me cynical but I highly doubt most people will go for a bright and colourful 2D game in this day and age. Just making a game that looks great, sounds great and has a ton of personality and charm is not a recipe for success now.

A) It's more than two weeks out from GTA B) The audiences really don't cross-over anyway aside from "people who play video games" C) It's 6th in the UK charts currently - so it's clearly not exactly doing badly. (The Wii U accounts for a little under half of those sales in the UK, too - which is good news for it).
I picked it up on the Wii U over the weekend and it's thoroughly good fun. Like the first, the real magic comes from playing with friends, so definitely do that where and whenever possible. The Gamepad use is the first really solid use of the hardware since the Wii U was released - and genuinely adds to the pleasure of the game (again, doubly so when playing with friends).
It's a pity Ubisoft didn't feel the Wii U was worth keeping this as a (timed) exclusive, as I'd say it would have been a definite system seller (and at a time, earlier in the year, when one was desperately needed). I think the fate of the Wii U would be different if we'd seen Rayman back in March. But, oh well. At least no-one has an excuse for not playing it now - but if you do intend on picking up a Wii U eventually for Smash Bros, Pokemon, Zelda, etc - I'd recommend getting it now with Rayman for as cheap as you possibly can. You will prefer it to the 360/PS3/PC versions.

Hm, really? I've been told by almost everywhere else that the Wii U version, while excellent, is the weaker version as the button-combos are replaced with a short, motion-controlled escort mission if you aren't playing in multiplayer? I don't have the luxury of playing in multiplayer very often, so I was leaning towards the Steam version for that reason. What's your take on the missions: I would quite like to get it for Wii U out of a misplaced sense of loyalty.

I haven't played it in single player at all so far, so I couldn't really tell you. I think I'd rather have the control of Murfy myself over the the 360/PS3 solution, though - even if I was in single player.

Still enjoying it immensely even on my lonesome. One thing I love so much among other things is the use of music throughout, both in the main stages themselves and the music levels. Latest music level being set to a mariachi version of Eye of the Tiger, a good chunk of it played on a kazoo. XD

Satazius, a shoot 'em up with a techno-ey soundtrack and loads and loads of bullets. Of all the many games I have in my backlog, I've been strangely drawn to it lately. Sharp and straight to the action, often playing it in 5 to 10 minute bursts. Not a genre I normally go for either, but between that and Ether Vapor Remaster I'm starting to get a feel for them.

Secret of Mana - I've reached the village of Matango. This is now the furthest I've ever got in the game and I will make damn sure I keep going this time around.

Took a rare opportunity to play some unplayed Wii backlog.
Played Countdown for a bit. Was awesome, natürlich. Beat the AI and won the famous Countdown Teapot! Just missed out on the century though.
Finally got round to Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Played as Alex and Karas to start with. Was great fun once I got the hang of it, up until that final boss fight. Why does every endboss in these games absolutely have to be a [censored] overpowered cheap-shotting arse of doom. I packed in when it got to a third form.
Was going to have a go at Bit Trip Complete as well, 6 pounds from Asda brand new, bloody bargain. Though I only got as far as menu afore folks returned home, so still unplayed for the moment.
Still yet to try out SoulCalibur Legends and Pandora's Tower. I'll leave the latter for when I've more time to dedicate.

Rayman Legends. Wonderful, hilarious game. I do have to wonder why they repeated Origins' mistake of failing to establish a villain. I don't want there to be a complex, involved plot, not at all, but I'd like there to be some kind of final showdown with an established presence. As it is the game doesn't really feel like it reaches a climax, it just... stops.
Other than that, though, no complaints. A really fantastic game.

Rayman Legends. Beat the game a few days ago; now just trying to get every last Teensy. All the Invasion stages are finished properly, thank Christ; those things were driving me insane.

Nah, it's cool. I can definitely see where you're coming from, even for the time I don't think it would have been as good as it's being made out to be. I think it's good, mind, but people put it next to the likes of Chrono Trigger and it doesn't begin to compare.
Anyway, Legends. Just getting down to doing the Origins levels and it's strangely nostalgic!
