Yunsung looks like a noncebag, tbh. Well, now his looks matches his personality. True dat.

Does anyone like Yun-seong? Methinks Namco keep including him so everyone can beat him up in the training mode.
Also, Mina <3

He sounds like less of a dick if you switch him to Japanese. Xianghua sounds like less of a retard in Japanese, too.
Unfortunately, this is offset by the awesome US voices of Cervantes, Yoshimitsu, Raphael and some others. So I have to keep hopping between voice tracks.

It's not just his voice, it's his general rubbishness. "Hey, let's take Hwang and make him worse!" I don't find him satisfying to play with at all.

Mitsurugi is the same in both languages. Seriously. And yes, we need a proper return of Hwang, or him taking off his assassin's mask finally.

Hwang's appearance in SCIII was canon. And along with Li Long and Amy, He was made proper with SCIII: Arcade Edition.
Also, I'm pretty sure no one really likes Yun Seong. But, still, I quite like his new gear.
Mind you I don't like Hwang either. He is just boring. Yun Seong is annoying. Is there ever a middle ground?

Hwang was a better rival for Mitsurugi than Taki because he was a shaolin master dude.

Wha? I mean that is a completely different topic. Plus I'm pretty sure that they have never been rivals.
The problem with having Hwang rival Mitsurugi would be:
1) It would clash with Hwang's goal of obtaining Soul Edge for Korea's benefit. Along with trying to bring Seong Mina home. 2) Namco wouldn't do it because they already had Li Long in Soul Blade, The Tangeashima Riflemen in Soul Calibur, Taki in Soul Calibur 2 for some reason and Setsuka in Soul Calibur 3. And Darth Vader in Soul Calibur 4. *cough* 3) Mitsurugi has basically had the same story since SC2 (That he doesn't see the Tangeashima Rifles as threats anymore) and basically becomes a mercenary for [censored]s and giggles, until he hears word of Soul Edge again. And seeing as Taki is Japanese and is all anti Soul Edge, it kinda makes sense. 4) Mitsurugi is a boring character, who only the developers seem to like. 5) Ninja Vs Samurai. Nuff said.
So, there you go. I mean I prefer Hwang to Yun Seong but I don't get all the Hwang love really. There is a lot of it on Soul Calibur Universe.

I disapprove of Seong Mina's sudden choice to wear cloths again. Her alternate costume is naked.

If you think Hwang has never been Mitsurugi's rival, you obviously need to play Soul Blade again. Because not only are they both the generic leading men in that game (seigfried is just some random side character), they also fight in the opening. Mitsurugi was totally the real main character of Soul blade though.
And as for no-one liking him, he's pretty much one of the most popular chars. Not only is his fighting style accessible and deep, he was also, as mentioned above, the better of the 3 leads in Soul Blade, despite being relegated by awful story (or entire lack of story on his part) in the later games.

Mitsurugi's utterly awful VA made me dislike him quite a bit. Flick it over to Japanese and I was able to actually start liking him. He seems a little single-minded (see: stupid) in his efforts, though.
"You cannot be Soul Edge, for the real Soul Edge would not be so easily beaten! Now off I go to find the real Soul Edge! Ha ha ha!!"
And, of course he neglects to notice that the woman trying to kill him is using the same fighting style as a guy he slaughtered.

Isn't it pronounced, "Shi-ang-hua"?
|
|
|
Post by Pombar on Mar 2, 2008 13:37:44 GMT
The "Sh" sound is from the back of your mouth, kinda like the sound of steam escaping from a pressure valve. "ang" is closer to "ung" in English script. And I don't really know how to describe the "hu" sound in "hua" other than to say it's from the back of the throat, not from the mouth. Eh, it's weird to explain. Also, the first syllable is said with the pitch held constant throughout - but definitely with a noticeable pitch, it's not neutral. The second is quick, and goes from high to low, pitch-wise. Because it's spelt Xi?nghuà.
EDIT: the "?" in Xi?nghuà is a lower case A with a flat accent on top.

Chinese Rs can be the most horrible letter ever. It's about in between a rolled R, a soft J, and a SH. As for vowels, "a" isn't so bad. "i" can be annoying on occasion, but it's the easiest one to apply tones to. I do like the Welsh LL though. That's a nice sound.
So yeah... where's my hard-to-pronounce Welsh SC character?
