Normally Dave's repeats aren't worth mentioning, unless you're a die hard Top Gear fan and need to watch it constantly, but they've started showing Robot Wars Extreme during the daytime. Even if you don't honestly care about the repeats, lets face it you had opinions on this show. Everyone's probably watched it and saw how awesome robots like Hypnodisc was, and just how cool Sgt Bash was for having a flamethrower even though it did zero (visible) damage to all but those dozy enough to fur line there machines. Watch some classic action here.

If they haven't got the first season with Jezza, I'm not interested.

I used to be a huge Robot Wars fan when I was in primary school. I could list all of the seed positions for the fourth and fifth series.

If they haven't got the first season with Jezza, I'm not interested. They do, every episode. But the robots were pretty rubbish back then. Season 2 onwards was where the awesome started. That link above in Nam's post has every Robot Wars ep ever bar Robot Wars Extreme (because Dave got it)

Man, this is awesome. I did prefer the show when Craig Charles presented it, but awesome nevertheless.

My fondest memory of this show was when Stinger killed Matilda. And then the house robots helped him finish the job XD

It was best when the robots sucked i.e. early on. No fun when they actually stand a chance.
I was gushing about this a little last night without actually having rewatched. Upon doing so I find it entirely unengaging. Good when I was 12.

I love Robot Wars. Cassius, Chaos 2, and Gemini are some of my favourite robots. It's nice that Dave is showing some episode from Extreme. The down side is they didn't start from Series 1.

Reading up on Wiki, I have literally no memory of Clarkson ever fronting the show. I must have only become aware of it in the second series.

I remember the first series and watching it on Friday nights before going out, but to be honest, it was never that good with Clarkson. The show only really got its wind when Charles took over.
The actual competition of the show was never really that strong before Cassius came along with the first self righting mechanism, either.
Man, I wish Robot Wars would come back.

I think the problem was that Clarkson himself kind of treated the whole thing as a joke.
The absolute best fight, if I recall it correctly, was probably Hypnodisc vs. Splinter in series four.

Chaos 2 vs Wild Thing is another good fight. Chaos 2 was almost pitted not once, but twice. Also, Chaos 2 is the only robot to win a championship, and retain it the following Series. Anyone remember Plunderbird....Blunderbird more like lol.

The actual competition of the show was never really that strong before Cassius came along with the first self righting mechanism, either. I'd have to disagree, I think once Cassius demonstrated it's flipper, and then Chaos II perfected it, the entire series came about who had the best flipper for at least two years. It was only when people started realising that everyone had a flipper and/or a ShRiMec that it began to pick up again, and it went back to being about causing damage, rather than merely flipping your opponent into a position where they couldn't get back up. Near the end when Hypnodisc and Razer started doing serious damage, that was it's best. Though I was always fond of the earlier series when there was pinball. I quite enjoyed the pinball.

I dunno, before the shrimec stuff, merely flipping over your opponent was generally the way to win anyway - and since there was no defense against it, it made for some pretty quick and boring matches.
I do love me some Hypnodisc and Razer though.

I always say people keep forgetting Typhoon 2, the single most destructive robot ever put into that arena and one of the last champions before it was cancelled. Hypnodisk had nothing on Typhoon 2's spinner.
Hell, it broke the arena in one Series Final to the point they had to stop the match, repair the arena and then restart. I'm also fairly sure it retained it's championship too, the second since Chaos 2. (Couldn't say for sure though)

I miss Mortis, a very over confident team but atleast they won something in the end. There's Panic Attack which never stood a chance in later wars. I was very fond of Gravity, which appeared in Series 7. Best part is flipping robots out of the arena, and guess who achieved this first.......Chaos 2, Firestorm flipped outta there!

My favourites amongst them had to be any robots that were so clearly and utterly crap almost to the point of being unusable (I seem to remember one with legs, which was already near immobile and swiftly disposed of!).
I was quite partial to Sumpthing, despite not being very good in its appearances but they had a competent run and a fun time. And I agree on the whole flippers thing, I got so sick and tired of seeing Chaos 2 just dominate everything by tipping everything over.

I can name quite a lot of robots, take your pick from theses:
Tornado Wheely Big Cheese Steg 2 Bigger Brother Dantomkia X-Terminator Mousetrap Nemesis Killertron (They were from Maidstone, my home town) Terrorhurtz (Killerhurtz in early Series) Behemoth Storm 2 Supernova Spawn Again Morgue Mute Pussycat
I liked Pussycat, the driver of it sadly died in a car crash. I love this battle from Extreme 2, Mr Physho flipped over.

Behemoth reminded me of Shunt. When they faced Shunt in the Sumo, they both locked horns, and they didn't move until the end, slight movement mind you.

(Couldn't say for sure though) It's probably less a case of forgetting about it and more a case of no-one watched the last 2 series when the BBC dropped it to Channel 5 instead. :x Honestly, I didn't even know the show was still going on Channel 5 until a couple of years after they'd killed it and I saw a repeat of it.
