They've done an alright job with that.

Looks like those Star Trek Generations gags weren't so far off! Certainly looks very interesting. It will be cool to see just what the story for the game could be.

Robotnik = Malcolm McDowell Amy = Troi Knuckles = Worf Omega = Data
And so on.

A nice little cinematic, I'm interested to see how classic Sonic will be incorporated. Beyond that, though, same as Sonic Colours during its first trailer. There is literally nothing substantial there to comment on.
Actually, one thing I can comment on; that stock orchestral music is not what I would have gone for at all.

Again, too early to tell, but if the moves and sound effects modern Sonic uses are anything to go by, I'm guessing the gameplay of this thing'll have a Colours/Unleashed feel to it....

Hopefully more Colours than Unleashed, if you ask me. Interesting trailer, but I can't say I'm keen on Classic Sonic's model either.

My thoughts as they went through the trailer -
Oh wow Sega Logo and old school "Say-Ga!" Its Green Hill Zone, mein gott and it looks realisticish/detailed. Its like they listened to us. And there is a bizarre sort of Okami style around it but not as good looking or anything like Okami. Sonic sure is moving like he does in Colours/Unleashed Day. I'm not going to get excited. MY GOD OLD SCHOOL SONIC. He looks so wee and fat and his eyes! THEY ARE BLACK.
Crying now.
Its like when Metal Sonic overtakes Shadow on the speed skating in the Winter Olympics opening move. Best Game Ever.

So, hold on, they were adamant about keeping Sonic's current model for Sonic 4 (I seem to recall someone saying that his current model was to be used for all post-Adventure games), and then this? Odd move.

Oh wow Sega Logo and old school "Say-Ga!" I do remember how that helped Sonic 4 become the five star game it is instead of the one star monstrosity it otherwise would have been.

This trailer reveals nothing. Show me something substantial, Sega. Remember, I have money. You want my money, don't you? EARN IT.

Show me something substantial, Sega. Remember, I have money. You want my money, don't you? EARN IT. They've done nothing to try and earn it for about fifteen years; at this point they know you'll just give it to them regardless. Facebook is hilariously pathetic sometimes. That people are excited for a 3D model of Sonic without green eyes based off a less-than-one-minute video just sums up Sonic fans perfectly. I'm reserving judgement until I see actual gameplay footage. Sonic without irises doesn't somehow instantly make a game amazing. Sonic sure is moving like he does in Colours/Unleashed Day. I'm not going to get excited. MY GOD OLD SCHOOL SONIC. He looks so wee and fat and his eyes! THEY ARE BLACK. Crying now. Best Game Ever. Must refrain from hysterical laughter.

This is feeling dangerously close to fan-pandering.
With the Sonic fanbase, this worries me.
The only optimism I have pretty much comes from Colours' success. Perhaps this will be a good thing, but I just worry it's aiming too much to go HEY LOOK OLD FANS, LIKE THIS COS IT RECOGNISES YOU EXIST a little too much.

The last bout of pandering resulted in Sonic 4, and even then people still rushed to defend that pile of mediocre bilge.
I can't tell if the trailer means that modern Sonic's going to be running through some remade classic levels or if they're genuinely saying retro-Sonic is going to be teaming up with his current self.
If it's the former, it's pointless. If it's the latter...it strikes me as hideously unprofessional. Acknowledging the shift in art style in such a way seems weird and only strengthens the sense of segregation between the franchise's infancy (and prime) and its current state.

Trailer looks good. But then, Sonic games usually can't be faulted, graphics-wise. Not enough to make any kind of judgement. Hope there's a scene where Retro Sonic asks "how could you let ME become YOU. Retro Sonic is so goddamn adorable. If it's the latter...it strikes me as hideously unprofessional. Acknowledging the shift in art style in such a way seems weird and only strengthens the sense of segregation between the franchise's infancy (and prime) and its current state. Worked in Turtles Forever. Although TMNT has been (mostly) consistently good.

After watching the trailer a couple times, I noticed that classic Sonic has flesh coloured eyelids. Nice touch, Sega.

No idea what the game will be like, not entirely sure where they're going with this. Hopefully something tongue-in-cheek, can't see how it would work otherwise.

Hopefully something tongue-in-cheek, can't see how it would work otherwise. This ^ This trailer doesn't give away anything. It's post SA Sonic running through a patchily coloured, patchily black and white Green Hill Zone-esque area, to meet up with pre SA Sonic. We could take that at ace value and have it mean old Sonic meets new Sonic, and gameplay involves the two of them dashing through 3D versions of old Mega Drive levels, but it's equally likely these will be new levels with similar themes (lets face it how cliche is the two tone chequered background landscape littered with palmtrees, grass, and sunny sky's?). The whole "two Sonic's" could be baloney too, this might just be the game that serves as the actual transfer point between the two, with there just being one Sonic, in two periods of time. Likewise, the black and white levels might just be an artistic choice for the trailer, and may never crop up during gameplay at all. If anything, the only interesting point about this trailer is that it's for Xbox and PS3, with mentions of both Xbox Live, and Playstation Network. Now that can mean either that this game is online, and has either competitive, or co-operative multiplayer, or, equally as likely, that this is only availiable for download, and wil not be sold on discs, making it relatively likely that this won't be a big full game, rather maybe another episode (aided by the fact that this is the first proper announcement or something that's s'posed to celebrate Sonic's 20 th). At best, this has been in the works since Colours' release, and isn't due out until much later in the year, otherwise the time span from announcement to the anniversary is rather short. Everyone is just getting hyped because of a flashy trailer. While it may escape being dross (after all, Colours did), there's nothing at all to go on, and one good trailer does not make one good game. After all, didn't '06 look good in the trailers too?

Nobody has gotten hyped (well, okay John has a bit), what are you talking about? And why are you bringing up '06? It's irrelevant, almost five years later - Sonic Team have since proved they can make a decent game. Yes, it looked very nice in the trailers and turned out to be guff, but in this case, I got the impression of mild interest/skepticism, rather than anyone hailing it as a return to form.
