It is the worst game in the world. Well I disagree, I have play some games that are way worse then Sonic 06. It may be the worst sonic game (maybe) but not the worst game in the world.

Alright, it's not as bad as Custer's Revenge.

Sonic '06 is absolutely incompetent in every single way. To play it as an actual game is impossible, but to play it in the same way you would watch Birdemic is entertaining. The worst game ever made is Metroid: Other M as it is hugely mean-spirited, and more sexist than even Custer's Revenge.

Sonic '06 has some lovely music in it and, to be fair, graphically the pre-rendered cutscenes are impressive. That is literally all I can give it. The fact it was titled as if it was a big renewal of the franchise is insulting on a good many levels.
It's why I don't mind the fact Sonic Team are letting themselves take a little while between titles. If longer development time means a game like Generations, I'm all in favour. Rushing a game to meet a deadline (and, seriously, why are Sega imposing deadlines on themselves? Nintendo never do that- the opposite, in fact, they love to delay and perfect) gives us Sonic '06.
Though, naturally, there is a lot of bull[censored] in '06 that must have taken up development time that could have been saved had they not bothered.

Do I have to post Clement's multi-part rant review to explain why Sonic '06 is the worst Sonic game to exist?
Anyways - that Pickle Unleashed was fantastic. Perhaps if he collected cucumber sarnies instead of rings? :B

I don't care about what other says. I love Sonic 06 and I will not change my mind. (and I HATE Mario 64.) (Though I prefer Generations and Unleashed over it, of course) Go play Bubsy 3D and you'll see what a bad game is. Or Jersey Devil.

Woah, woah, woah, slow down. I can understand someone liking a bad game but hating Super Mario 64?!

I kind of hate Mario 64 to be honest. I'd explain why but who cares, frankly.
Jersey Devil and Bubsy 3D are both superior to Sonic '06 simply because they function. Also, Jersey Devil is actually pretty good! Lots of neat ideas. Whereas Sonic '06 is only loved by people who want to actually put it in Sonic.

I kind of hate Mario 64 to be honest. I'd explain why but who cares, frankly. I'd be interested in learning why Stu doesn't like Mario 64. I remember playing, and sucking at that game. Was too dark (as in unable to see, not grim-dark) IIRC. And as LT said, the only things '06 has going for it are some good music, and well done pre-rendered cutscenes. Everything else, from level design, to concept, to controls, to physics, to gameplay, to storyline, to voice acting, to etc is just bad.

I dunno. I kinda like Shadow's story. And some levels / gimmicks. Also playing as Omega because he is broken as all hell. But all of it is overshadowed by [censored].
There is part of me wanting to play Sonic 06 again but then there are the Game Grumps. And even though it seems like they don't even pay attention to the screen half of the time it really does highlight how bad it is.
I can't even think of a game I played that is worse than Sonic 06. Seriously serious. I'd probably have to play Superman 64 or Steel Battalion Kinect to do so.

I'd be interested in learning why Stu doesn't like Mario 64. Have you played Mario 64 recently? It's aged about as well as 1984 spunk. I mean, back in its day I'm sure it was amazing, but it's borderline unplayable to me now. Maybe it's because I never grew up with it. It's still a hundred times better than Sonic '06, of course.

Alright, it's not as bad as Custer's Revenge. I dunno about that. Custer's Revenge has healthier attitudes about sexuality than Sonic 06.

The main crux of why I dislike Mario 64 is that it forces you to replay effectively the same loose, uninteresting terrain around 7 times per level, and that's if you complete goals flawlessly. If I could get more than one Power Star per visit to a level, I would love the game - it would be shorter, much shorter, but a thousand times better. As it is I find it a chore.

I am currently replaying Sonic 06 again, and the only problem I have ever come across was during the super speed sonic moments, other then that, I find the game very playable, and have not come across any other problems. Now 2 player levels is a different story, me and my brother were having huge problems with that.

That's an entirely justifiable reason. I think it's probably a design choice for exactly the reason you suggested- it artificially lengthens the game. It's one of the major positive things about getting the 100 Coin Stars- you can get more than one at once, a bonus considering those ones usually take the longest to get. Will concede that some of the levels aren't that memorable too. Similarly, Sunshine has some lovely levels but suffers even more from repetition (the Blue Coins in particular- they may not be necessary, but they use an over-complicated mechanic if you want them).

If I could get more than one Power Star per visit to a level, I would love the game - it would be shorter, much shorter, but a thousand times better. As it is I find it a chore. It's never really been the tedium that's put me off Mario 64 (he says, as he looks up from power-levelling his Litwick), more the controls and level design. You're bang on the mark with "loose" and "uninteresting", and the ancient controls and graphics do nothing to improve this. The controls and camera really feel stiff as well - you can tell it was early days for analogue control. I have huge respect for the game, mind you, as it did effectively create the formula for movement in a 3D environment. Sunshine is a hugely more interesting game marred by some bizarre and awful choices (most people cite the blue coins, which are crap; I prefer to point at the abundance of red coin missions, which are terrible). Galaxy fine-tuned the formula, paving the way for Galaxy 2 to perfect it. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I consider Super Mario Galaxy 2 to be the finest video game ever made. Anyway, back to Sonic '06. I would argue that it's only really the music that's good in this game: the pre-rendered cutscenes, although technically looking nice, are devoid of charm or imagination. Literally the only moment in the game that felt like it had any sort of flair is the moment where Sonic taps a robot with his toe, knocking it over. And anyway, the music itself doesn't feel much like a Sonic game. It's all very generic rock - good generic rock, I don't deny that - but again, kind of lacking flair or panache. The Litwick's called Brum, and has just evolved, for anybody interested.

It's everything I want from a video game done perfectly. The presentation (especially the music) is absolutely top-notch. The levels are constantly varied and interesting; each one exploring a concept enough to satisfy you, yet never overstaying their welcome. The controls are simple and streamlined, but never dumbed down. The difficulty ramps up perfectly, and climaxes in a really tough final star that will put every skill you've learned to the test. There's even an addictive (yet unobtrusive and tangential to your goal) collect-'em-up function in the Star Bits: it's infinitely satisfying to me to just wave my remote and watch them pile up.
But what really leads me to call it the best is that it lasted me around 60 hours, and not a single minute of that was spent not having fun. Sixty hours of pure, unhampered joy. It's not absolutely flawless, but I'll forgive a lot for that.
Edit: SO HOW ABOUT THEM GENERATIONS MODS EH

It is the worst game in the world. I thought ET for the Atari held that title. Found this by chance while looking through youtube for her Sonic Unleashed cut scenes. Anyone know if there's a Death Egg level mod? Try to avoid double posts, guys - no biggie but yeah... edit button's right there, begging for a push. - Mambo

It is the worst game in the world. I thought ET for the Atari held that title. To be fair, ET is extremely impressive for a game programmed by one man in a fortnight. It's a crap, crap game but it's impressive when you consider that. Sonic 06, however, had a massive development team as run by one of the biggest- if not the biggest (in terms of recognition)- third-party developer in Japan. It also had an undoubtedly much higher budger and, though it doesn't show, development time. Sonic 06 is, when you consider these things, objectively worse.

i'm laughing for real right now i mean, there's no accounting for taste, but I don't see why this is laughable, it's a fantastic game, probably my second favourite ever made. It's absolutely fantastic, no doubt, but to say it's the best game ever made reeks of hyperbole. It came out less than three years ago; I'd allow for a little bit more hindsight before I said something like that. I'm laughing at the statement more than I am the game in question. That's almost* like saying that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (which came out the same year) is the best movie ever made. I love it, but it's not exactly the purest pinnacle of the form, now, is it? * almostOn a different note, I don't understand how Borderlands is even in the same class of "worst games" as what we're discussing. Not even the same phylum. For what it's worth it's one of the only shooters in the past ten years I actively picked up and enjoyed. To say it's "dull" surely takes a mind so incapable of processing fun that taking cocaine in Disneyworld must feel tasteless and grey. Currently loving the sequel.
