We can all argue until we're blue in the face, but here's what it comes down to.
Choose your decision, we'll take results once we think everyone's had a say (in a few days or so).

em
is it just me or is the poll system utterly broken
I honestly can't tell if I voted or not, and the number of votes is just changing at will
EDIT: oh it's back to normal
what on earth was that all about

It's changing at will because you can change your vote on a dime.

That is the single weirdest poll system I have ever seen in my entire life, I didn't even notice my vote getting counted at first.

Don't blame StCO, blame the recent "upgrade" Proboards made to their forum style across their entire range of forums.

Just a heads up guys and a reminder, if anyone gives a toss to vote in the poll! We'll give it a bit longer before we reconvene!

Can I just say I'm really surprised at the amount of people voting against this? I've almost thought it might have been rigged or something because of the sheer amount of no votes.

Given that no deadline whatsoever has been called for this poll, aside from Mambo's vague "a bit longer", I'm also having slight doubts.

I kinda like the uniformity of the avatars here, and the fact that due to the restrictions, we don't really change them that often. I barely even pay attention to user names, the avatar is generally enough to know who posted what (though that leads to some confusion when newbies occasionally pop up and take them). Random anime characters and Sonic fan characters and whatever random crap people troll about on the Internet for these days don't have the same appeal, really.

Awww. I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause confusion. I just wanted to bump it so as many as possible see it.... then I remembered it was set as an announcement. Doh.
Please be assured there's nothing untoward going on!

I just found it so hard to believe so many voted no that I thought maybe people had been signing up just to vote no, or something.

On the flip-side, sometimes there are overlaps, such as L.T. and Prowler, and I'm fairly sure there's a Team Mobius Sonic avatar that gets used fairly frequently. Of course, it's not common. But yeah, if this does go ahead, I would ask that you don't change up your avatar TOO often.

Can't think but help this sends a rather unpleasant message to the artists who worked on STC, in its anniversary year of all times. "Your work isn't good enough to use on our forums." Call yourselves STC fans…

Haha what the hell are you talking about? Forcing people to use avatars of STC(O) art doesn't equal liking it, nor does giving people the option not to use it mean not liking it. I hope you're being sarcastic.

Despite being new to the forum, AND despite one of my first posts here being about my disappointment in the lack of selection when if comes to avatars, I voted against having custom/non-STC Avatars. Why? I've come to see why you guys only had StC avatars to begin with. It really keeps the forum nice and clean, and it somehow ties everyone together as part of the same fandom in a weird way. I don't really know why, I just know I like it the way it is. But if more people vote for custom/non-STC Avatars, then that would be fine too Although I think I'll be sticking with my current StC avatar regardless XP

To me, an avatar should be something that represents you, rather than the forum you're on. I don't think it would be too much of a clutter so long as there was a size restriction on the avatars, and so I don't see a problem with letting everyone decide for themselves how they'd like to be represented.
I'd probably still stick with Caterkiller 'cos I like his "eegh" face, but the only reason I chose him was because it wasn't being used yet.

I concur with Shay. So long as there's a reasonable pixel size limit, I don't see much of a problem with having a personal picture. Though I still think we should hang on to the original avvie index for those used to the original avs, or those who are undecided/can't be bothered to pick their own.

Oh, definitely. I even expect the majority of users to keep their avatars for now, and some for a good amount of time. No-one's forced to change their avatar, just given the option to.

Wow, Tom. Isn't being on a forum dedicated to a now-defunct comic and continuing to talk about it and talk to like-minded people enough?

Wow, Tom. Isn't being on a forum dedicated to a now-defunct comic and continuing to talk about it and talk to like-minded people enough? Is it really? This seems to me like a push towards the board being more its own thing, only tangentially related to STC. Which wasn't really the intent when the thing was set up.

Surely no moreso than any other forum with a dedicated focus that allows custom avatars? The discussion forums are still STC and Sonic-centric. Though, let's be honest, the STC subforum is actually one of the quieter parts of the site. I'm not sure people's avatars will set the conversation pieces, they certainly haven't led to an influx of STC chat in recent months
