The Thing doesn't look too good IMO. Asides from that, I'm looking forward to this movie.

The face of the thing is strangely similar to the face of the old wrinkly bus driver that I see each morning.

I suspected all along there was going to be a Fantastic Four movie, with all the Marvel Super Hero films over the last few years.

Its been on the cards for a while now, in fact a lot of super hero films were on the cards since the early 90's the problem is that film technology at the time couldnt do it sucessfully enough for it to be convincing. they had to be very stotic sort of heroes e.g. batman, hes got no powers just gadgets, so theres no way that a man on fire constantly could work.
But I wonder whatever happened to the Superman Vs Batman film?

James Cameron would have made a Spider-man film years ago if it werent for legal troubles between studios, DC have no such excuse as they are owned by a film studio and rights would never have been as problem. There were a few projects from DC planned during the nineties but they all fell through for various reasons (like the tim burton directed kevin smith scripted 'death of superman' film), after 'batman and robin' no one really wanted to make a superhero movie because they all felt dirty...
Hmmm, im going to remain pessimistic about the fantastic four movie, I just dont think FF (despite their greatness as one of the only things marvel have ever done right) is very filmable really...

I'll be sad if Elektra flops, because Jennifer Garner is gorgeous and seems very cool, and all the clips I've seen make it look like it's got some pretty superior action stuff.
But Fantastic Four... well, the Thing is tricky. Star Wars has mostly pulled its CGI off, but with the Thing where you want him to be able to interact much more closely with actors, I think it might be problematic. Plus, I don't think CGI is as good with large, somewhat open characters instead of the small, detailed ones like Yoda or Jar Jar. Think of the LOTR cave troll or an average SFX creature in a recent Harry Potter film. Now if it was an all-CGI film, and I think FF could sell it without making it seem at all 'kiddy', that would work. Still, hopefully it'll be good to see.

But I wonder whatever happened to the Superman Vs Batman film? Canned. But Bryan Singer is doing Superman Returns, with Brandon James Routh as Clark, Kate Bosworth as Lois, and apparently Kevin Spacey as Luthor (he hasn't worked with Singer since Usual Suspects!). Problem is...he's doing it instead of doing X-men 3, and apparently James Marsden is gonna be in Superman too (as Lois's boyfriend), effectively stopping him from being Cyclops. Basically because 20th Century Fox want to get X3 in cinemas by 2006 or something silly like that, and it can't wait....but it's currently missing a director and some of the cast. Also, Singer is apparently remaking Logan's Run after Superman is done and dusted. He's a busy fella.

Well, I wouldn't call Spidey 2 a 'fantastic film' so much as 'hugely disappointing farce' myself, but... I don't see the problem with there being films of Iron Man. Comics haven't been tapped for interesting films nearly as much as they can and should be. Now that the special effects can handle things, the sky's the limit. TeamSmithy: Heh, good point. But I think the Incredibles is still more of a cartoon than a FF film ought to be. Then again, when you try to get realism with CGI characters it often looks fake or downright creepy so maybe it's not such a good idea.

What next, are you going to say how much you hated 'Spirtied away', how about trampling over 'Raiders of the lost arc', or dissing 'the nightmare before christmas'... Damn you...

Ok I'm a big fan of marvel and I think that all the marvel movies so far have been great. And Ed what you mean Spidey 2 wasn't that great it was.
I think the Thing doesn't look that bad only the face is weird. The one thing I have to say is that Mr Fantastic looks too young anyone else agree?

Alot of ppl I've spoken to about Spidey 2 hate it because it's more of a drama and comedy than an action movie. Plus, everyone seems to hate the scene after the train set-piece where all the citizens on the train promise not to tell anyone that they saw Peter's face. Which I thought was a really moving scene, incidentally.

What next, are you going to say how much you hated 'Spirtied away', how about trampling over 'Raiders of the lost arc', or dissing 'the nightmare before christmas'... Damn you... I loved 'Spirited Away', though towards the end it got a bit cute. But overall, I think it's a seminal film. Raiders and Nightmare didn't do anything for me one way or the other, though I think Nightmare is impressive for technical reasons. It lacked surprise, genuine humour or a central plot that felt substantially different from, well, the first film for one. Molina gave a splendid performace as Doc Ock, but the script gave him nothing. Meanwhile, Peter's personal life was just written as Soap Opera Cliche #002 -- right down to the runaway bride at the end. Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane in the wettest possible way -- again, not helped by the standard professional hostage storyline. It just felt like a predictable melodrama mixed with a standard hero/kidnapped girlfriend plot, played straight. I loved the original Spider-Man. I think it's easily the best of Marvel's superhero films so far and a superb achievement in its own right. Spidey 2... isn't. By the end of the movie, I didn't care if MJ died, and I wasn't tremendously bothered what happened to Peter either. Big, big disappointment for me.

For me personally- lots of surprise (Harry went to take off Spideys mask, and actually manged it without a phone call/other distraction giving Pete time to escape secret identity intact), plenty of humour (J K Simonson's is clearly the man, just go watch 'the lady killers'). It had chessyness, but it was completely suitable and well played with Raimi really showing off his abilities, which he didnt get the chance to do in the first. But most of all it felt like a (pre senile) Stan Lee/Kirby/Ditko comic in movie form, and displaying the characteristic of one medium through another is quite a feat ('Spiderman 2' beats 'the hulk' and 'Ghost world' in this respect despite the fact that they kept going on about it)... That and it had a man lighting a cigar with robotic tentacles, how cool is that...
