I think it's safe to say it's an alien with some kind of telekinetic and psychic powers, as I doubt the show would delve into religion. The line "Some call him Satan" sorta blows that out the window. But I don't think its specifically the Christian evil-doer himself, its simply meant to be saying that this thing is evil and fear incarnate. Nasty stuff. Quite enjoyed it, but wasn't aware it was a two-parter.

It's just some big-assed evil alien with psychic abilities with an ego bigger than the Universe.

It's not impossible for it to be some kind of telepathic creature and Satan. (cf. Babylon 5's God).

A very very good episode indeed, the Ood were an odd bunch, until they turned evil, as their master was awakened. Best bits? Hmm maybe seeing how impressive the black hole was, and when The Doctor put on a spacesuit, and went underground. What a great scene when they found a tomb, with a cat shaped stone. I assume the master of the ood is coming out of that large circle door.

It's not impossible for it to be some kind of telepathic creature and Satan. (cf. Babylon 5's God). In the Babylon 5 story it showed how aliens (in this case the Vorlons) manipulated races into seeing them the way they want us to. With the Vorlons humans and other races saw them as beings of light/Angels. This thing in Doctor Who may have done something along those lines but takes the role of Satan instead.

We're not gonna see the Beast, if we do we'll die. So stop pondering on his appearance, you'll only be risking your life. ;D

Which one of the crew was in Eastenders? The one who's currently down the shaft with the doctor - can't think of the actress's name, but I get the feeling she was married to Barry in Eastenders... is there a soap watcher in the audience?

Go to the Doctor Who Homepage on the BBC website, an wait for the image of the Ood to change. You shall see the Beast that the Doctor faces on Saturday.

Frightening. I'm glad I'm not a small child, if I'd seen that when I was younger I'd have wet myself.

Judging from the image I saw on the website, Satan looks like he's gained a few pounds during the millions of years he's been trapped. Hell mustn't have a very good diet plan.

Considering how incredibly gay Doctor Who has become, I wouldn't be surprised.

Here's a point one of my friends raised; if the Doctor manages to beat Satan, does that make him better than Jesus? Sure, Jesus was tempted by Satan and resisted him, but that was just him adopting a "holier than thou" attitude and employing some willpower. The Doctor, on the other hand, is gonna knock seven bells out of the pompous git and then chuck him down a mineshaft afterwards (or into the Grand Black Hole). Discuss.

Shaun Parkes, right? He was in the Channel 4 TV film Human Traffic and the BBC 2005 version of Casanova.

How do we know it's really the Devil? It could be another alien with severe delusions of grandeur.
