David Jason was Count Duckula? Well looky that. I think he was all the VA's in Count Duckula. Or he might have been just Duckula and Doctor Von Goosewing, I can't remember. It's either that or Dangermouse where he plays all the parts.

Well, it can't have been Danger Mouse because Terry Scott played Penfold.
And yeah, Doctor Who. Any hardcore Whovians of long standing out there, out of interest?

Jason is a legend, and hardly capable of being typecast as anyone. He may as well be typecast as Frost, Duckula, Danger Mouse, Granville... Although I suspect they'll want to go for sexual chemistry with Piper, I think an older actor would work fine. I don't see a contradiction there, at least not by Billie's standards...

awww all this talk about retro cartoons such as Dangermouse!! They deserve a thread of their own! I didnt think David Jason did all the voiceovers of DM, but Penfolds does sound very similar. Also the other characters such as Greenback and Stiletto sound very different..... anyway onto Doccy WHOOO Im not soo keen on Christopher Eccleston, hes not a very convincing Doctor. He seems a bit wooden (ARF!) and needs to be more eccentric. Like Tom Baker!! yeah!!! Best Doc...ever! I like how the special effects are mostly the same tacky ones that were used in the older series, especially the costumes! Theyve got the atmosphere of the show jst right, its the actors Im not so impressed with. Billie Piper?! Please(!) They could at least use a washed-up EastEnders actress! lol!

yeah I think it needs to be a younger actor of around the 40s to appeal to a universal audience. Eh. Jason's famous and popular enough to bring in the universal audience, 60+ or not. David Jason was Count Duckula? Well looky that. And Toad in CITV's claymation Wind In The Willows.

obviously episode 1 would be hyped up...
But are the aderts for dr who getting fewer and fewer and are not as spectacular as they were before.
e.g. I loved the one with the dr saying "Do you wanna come with me? the I should warn you" with the theme music in the background.
does anyone know if the ratings are getting poorer for this show?

obviously episode 1 would be hyped up... But are the aderts for dr who getting fewer and fewer and are not as spectacular as they were before. This is pretty normal. The BBC hypes the beginning and sometimes the ending of its shows, but not so much in between (think "Spooks"). You can't really make a trend out of 2 episodes. Episode 2 was 2.6 million down on Ep 1 (7.3m watched) but it still led its timeslot, and series premieres almost always rate higher than their second episodes (especially when they've been heavily advertised) because there's a certain degree of 'sampling' going on. Probably didn't help that last Saturday was very sunny, and that Ecclestone had announced he was quitting, either. But it'll be a while before the show has been long enough to draw any real conclusions about the ratings. The BBC seems sufficiently pleased with it, since they've commissioned and Christmas special and are looking towards a second (or is that twenty-eighth?) series.

Also, the first episode was broadcast on a holiday weekend... and was the much-anticipated return, a show that had been built up in advertising for two or three weeks, let alone the nine-year wait. It's likely that not everyone who saw the first episode chose to see the second, and fewer people will have seen the second episode having not seen the first, considering how many saw the first episode.

I saw a bit of an episode when Dr Who says to an alien "*Something, something* or i'll kill him with this deadly jelly baby!" Tom Baker did that a lot! I loved it whenever he approached an evil alien and said "fancy a jelly baby?" He he... Episode 3 was cool, and episode 4 looks astonishing. I mean, look at the effects when Big Ben is destroyed!!! AMAZING!!! Although I have a question: why, at the end of the 'next episode' bit, were those scientist people screaming? It was kinda scary...

SSJ: 9 years since the Doctor last graced or screens. Episode 3 was another improvement. Although this episode wasn't quite as philosophically interesting as episode 2, it did have a lot of interesting commentary on the nature of cultural change and longetivity. But most importantly, it was a thunderingly good yarn with top effects and some great comedy (my favourite line: "follow that he[backside]!", "I pushed boxes in the Boston Tea Party!" -- bet the Yanks will love that -- and "...in Cardiff!"). I was a little thrown by the gas creatures ending up evil, but it made for good drama. I bet a bunch of kids across the country will be having nightmares tonight. The Doctor and Rose are amazing together, both for the comedic and sexual chemistry, and especially for when their values clash. Episode 4 looks utterly incredible.

Dude, you're sick! I agree that the new series is MUCH more realistic in terms of character. The producers have actually sat down and wondered: "what would it really be like for you if you went with the doctor?" The way Rose asks questions about time is so much better than in previous series. (i mean, the sidekicks in them just went along saying nothing!)
