i think episode 4 will get complains of violence, and I bet some sad no life writes in complaining that they shouldnt put a fake news boradcast out saying UFO crashes into big ben.
Before you laugh remember the show crisis command? That show got 100 complaints from people worried it was a real event!

Which is nothing to the first radio broadcast of 'War of the Worlds' of course, which was presented as a real event. There were reportedly suicides, heart attacks, miscarriages, mass panics, although it's difficult to ascertain how much of this is true and how much was sensationalised by the media of the day.

weird isnt it how people react to the media in this way. I remember crisis control and it was set in a different time and a future date. The big giveaway was that it was a fake but people didnt realise this!
i think people get eaten or summit in ep 4. slitheen?

tennant as doctor who ? as eccelston would say - fantastic!
i think it would have a cult following in the us, but it would be aired probably on bbc worldwide.
the yanks wouldnt think the bbc news report would be real as they would need to talk slower!
hey ominion, would you consider doing a doctor who or an stc flash animation?

If one of those punk-ass green things tried messing with my country I'd pistolwhip it back to Taiwan or where ever they came from.

whee - our first cliffhanger! The "next time" trailer didn't quite grab me as much as the previous ones had, it kinda felt like too much more of the same - still can't wait to see how everyone gets out of that one though also - cool aliens! the blinking was my favorite part - hope this gives kids loads of nightmares mwhahah! ^_^ *Breaks wind* erm....carry on... >_>

Heh, I'm a little disappointed with the SFX, those Redcaps were using pop guns, even blanks aren't as quiet as that. Heh, funny that the same system that screens telephone calls for words such as 'president' or 'bomb' also screens for 'Doctor' and 'TARDIS'

This latest instalment of Doctor Who produced something of a mixed reaction from me. There are a few questionable aspects that reduce its overall impact:
The shedding-sequence of the eponymous aliens was rather crude, but I accept that there's only so much that can be achieved on a television budget (and one of the shoestring ones granted by Auntie, no less), so I'm willing to disregard that - however, whatever dramatic impact the creatures themselves might have generated was rather atrociously squandered by their utterly absurd and prepostrous baby-face, which didn't juxtapose well with lumbering forms and wickedly-apiculated talons. Also, I'm inclined to agree with RSM that the paratrooper's (that's what the maroon beret signifies) rifle was ludicrously underpowered, but that's more of a nitpick than anything else. There were also a couple of rather excruciating sections that screamed "Plot Device" - the 'acting Prime Minister' cancelling a Cabinet meeting because "they'd get in the way"? The Royal Family suddenly being airbrished out of an unprecedented international crisis? I understand that you want to keep the plots streamlined, Russel T Davies, but these seemed rather silly.
However, beyond these the episode was quite strong. The scene where the Army rounded up the Doctor seemed almost cinematic, and some reliably strong performances were given by the cast, even the supporting actors - even though he didn't speak, the paratrooper who fired the aforementioned shot gave a convincing look of bewilderment and incredulity when he saw a bipedal pig in a spacesuit charging towards him at full tilt. The snide remark about the tourism-trashing tendencies of disaster films (Of course the crash was staged - how else would it have crashed through Big Ben?) also brought a smile to my face. The return of UNIT was also a fan-pleasing continuity fillip.
Altogether, it certainly isn't in the lofty ranks of adventures like "City of Death", but "Aliens of London" was decent enough.

Comparing episodes 1 & 4 to 2 & 3, I think it's clear that it's the director rather than the scripts which are at fault. The acting, production values and general tone (more slapstick and clear-CBBC-drama voices) all seemed distinctly off the pace. I could have done without the farting aliens, though only because it brought back horrible memories of paying money to see 'Dreamcatcher' in the cinema (worst. film. ever.). The hysterical giggling was a bit grating too, and the cliffhanger seemed to take forever to happen, cutting between three Slitheens emerging.
Apart from that, though, it was still another excellent episode. The pig twist was sickening, but the kind of clever and disturbing real-life influenced idea I love seeing. Hard to fault the concept, too -- eradicating the world's UFO experts at a stroke made for a great twist ending. Rose and the Doctor continued to be awesome together. The teaser act at the beginning was hilarious and dramatic: great beat with the "twelve months" gag.
Can't wait to see the conclusion!

VERY, VERY good episode. I'd agree the farting aliens were a bit much, and the design of them seemed to be the dregs left after the visual feast of Ep 2, but otherwise excellent. The stuff with Rose was very well done - I've only seen bits and bobs of old Doctors, but did they always bother to embue (is that even a word?) this much emotional drama in his sidekicks? 'Cos they should've done, it's excellent. On that note I'm starting to really like Ricky/Mickey. I noticed the trailer for next week showing him defending Rose's mum with a baseball bat - are we gonna see him twock some aliens? Hope so. Similarly, the bit with the pig was very well done. What I really like about this one, though, is the details. Such as the kid switching to Blue Peter to see Matt Baker make a spaceship cake - inspired. And when the roads are first cut off, you could hear a guy grumbling about how this is all Ken Livingstone's fault. ;D And, of course, the "crashing into Big Ben - it's just too perfect" line. Last point - this series seems to be really good at minor characters. I really like the PM's assistant or whatever he was, that Asian guy, and the wishy-washy MP that saw the aliens (who bares a scary resemblence to Esther Rantzen). Roll on next week!

I liked ep.5, the sense of world trauma was captured BRILLIANTLY. The only huge flaw wasn't anything to do with the episode...
...why the HELL do you put a preview of the next episode on a 2-parter?! Now we know that Rose's mum will escape, we know that the Doctor will escape, we know that that secretary guy gets killed (kind of predictable, but you know what I mean). Yeesh!
