This week, Yahtzee flexes his "games are art" muscles as he takes a look at No More Heroes.

"Ah, great!" I thought "This will probably help me finally decide if this thing's worth importing."
Four minutes later and I was still indecisive. So [censored] it, I'll just order it anyway. This review did remind me to keep an eye out for Killer7, however.

Does anyone else feel Yahtzee is losing his touch? Possibly. But it might just be that we know what to expect in his type of reviews now, so it loses some impact.

His work has ups and downs, always had. The episodes a few weeks back are among his very best, this week's, not so much.

I liked the podcast he did with Aussie Gamers. "He used to be much better." "Yeah, I agree." "Yeah he's losing his touch now." " "

He did Condemned 2 today, I'd say it's one of the best so far actually.

That review made me want to get the first Condemned more than anything.

True. But then, his main criticism of the second one was the plot going stir crazy at the end, and how many storylines does that not happen in now? Although, the final boss sounds toss.

And ruining the mystery of the first one.

Easy final bosses are fine if they're dramatic 'n stuff (read: FF7, MGS1). But there has to have been a really smegging epic battle beforehand to leave you truly satisfied with it.

I freakin' loved Comdemned 2 from start to end. Screw him. Mysteries are one thing, but one thing I really like about certain stories are when they are capable of being bat[censored] insane and then bring it back and explain it in a faaaaairly logical way.

I think actually most people will enjoy Condemned 2, because for the most part it's a positive review, as far as any review by Yahtzee is concerned. And like Sin said, some people like that sort of thing.

Basically its a game that's built upon its base and discarded many of the predecessors faults, yet at the same time has made some mistakes of its own but compensates with maintaining a good standard of combat/story. So its all pretty much dandy until the final slog where it becomes too outlandish to gel with the game that's come before it. However, its still good. [/nutshell]
Yahtzee's games aren't often as scolding as people seem to think.

I can only think of a few games that start out seemingly based in reality (or as close to), and fewer still that do it well. Fahrenheit I used to think, was good, but after going back, and the moment you wake up from the dead, I really lost interest. That moment when you arrive back at your appartment, remove yout bloody top, look in the mirror, and the man you murdered is staring at you is one of the better brown trouser moments, because it seems to be Lucas' mind breaking down, and you believe that. Games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Fahrenheit demand you make stupid leaps of logic just because the game says so all of a sudden.

MGS2's leaps were hardly stupid when the first game featured shamans, psychics and clone armies...

That felt established from the start, where as MGS2, you go through pretty much the whole thing, when all of a sudden, the game goes "snooker loopy", only for you to find out at the very end what just happened (oil cleaner/ almost alien level of sophistication A.I... it seems like too much of a stretch).

Seeing as how there's complex gene-selection-involving cloning as far back as the 70s, as well as flying tanks in the 60s, I personally think the almost-conscious AI of MGS2 (set in the mid 00s) wasn't too much of a stretch at all...

I could understand the Shagohod, since it used missle thrusters, which was fair enough. There's always been some conspiracy of scientists completing the Human Genome Project some years ago, perhaps before it was "officially" launched in 1990. It makes a good story, and within that universe, I could except.
Saying that, you do have nano-technology in this series, which can specifically target certain people, which is very advanced.
Touché, salesman.

Review: Smash Bros BrawlI like smash brothers, have done since the first game. But it's also so horribly true what he says about it. In particular the points about it being primarily a multiplayer game, but you then have to PLAY LOTS to unlock the biggest hyped up characters, at which point you become THAT GUY. I know exactly what he means, and that's why Smash Bros is my least ever played multiplayer game recently. My only criticism is he didn't mention the online at all, which is the next biggest thing about the game. So, not all that balanced a review I suppose, but even so... The points he did raise (bar perhaps the button bashing, maybe) I just think are incredibly true.

So I take it someone's competing for my title of "unofficial self-appointed ZP updater" then? Well, I've already got my copy ordered, knowing full well what to expect. I'd have to agree that it is silly to have to trawl through the single player for gods-know-how-long to unlock most of the content. It annoyed me about Melee, and I can't see this being any different. Still funny, mind, but I've seen funnier from him.
