Just downloaded the Sega Vintage Collection with Revenge of Shinobi in, just wondering since Spiderman isnt in the beginning credits, have they taken him out? Yes. So...what have they replaced him with?

From looking it up, the modern version is back to being a hong-kong knock off of Spider-Man, but he still acts like Spider-Man, and doesn't turn into the Devil like other versions.

Ok, as someone who is new to Steam and the PC Gaming world in general I have to ask if anyone has got any recommendations for good games? I feel like such a novice I'm not entirely sure what I'm even looking for. So would be grateful.
Although I did just buy the Complete Valve pack for £50. Seemed only natural. With Steam, y'know.

Depends on what genres you're after. But before anything, it's November. Don't buy games now! Do not! We're so close to the Winter sales at this point it's just a waste of money. Trust me, wait till the December Winter Sales and you will see prices like you never believed. Valve annually goes insane around that time every year. I saw Bioshock 1 for 50p once. It generally discounts the entire library. So wait and see from this list, other than the really cheap indies and the free mods. RTS: - Company of Heroes. Goes very cheap on Steam sales, best RTS ever made. - Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 - Civilization 5, great for newcomers to the series. You will lose days if you try it. - World in Conflict, a modern military set game that has an amazing story and deep tactical gameplay? I thought I was dreaming too. - XCOM Enemy Unknown, either the new or the old one. Both will kick your butt and make you want to play forever. RPG: - Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Their stripped down console versions do not do these works of brilliance justice. Get some mods in there. - Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics. Cheap, cheerful and brilliant. - The Witcher 2, a mature fantasy game with a great story, lush graphics and intense challenging combat. Shooter: - Black Mesa, it's free, it's an HD remake of Half Life 1 and it's BRILLIANT. - Crysis, it's made for PC's after all, before the sequels ruined everything. - Killing Floor, hilariously stereotyped British game of wave survival. Very meaty, satisfying and deliciously challenging. Don't expect to win. - Metro 2033, it's on consoles, but playing it on a 360 or PS3 is like trying to watch LOTR on a phone compared to the cinema. - Any of the Serious Sams. Retro-FPS style, also 16 person co-op. - Borderlands 2, immeasurably superior to the console version. - Battlefield 3, not Steam, but pretty much a showcase of PC capability. Also awesome multiplayer. Puzzle: - Tales of Monkey Island, while not perfect, it's a great shot at a dying breed of genre, point and click - The Walking Dead, morally tough and harsh, it's a great story Indie - Amnesia, first game in ages that is a legitimate horror game. - Audiosurf, play your music as a racetrack - Beat Hazard, same theory as Audiosurf, you put in your music and it becomes a Geometry Wars style shooter level based on the rythyme. - AAAaaAAaa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, this game is mental. Skydiving amongst neon buildings. Real thrill. - Poker Night at the Inventory, very cheap poker game with Max, Strongbad, The Heavy and Tycho. Hilarious banter mid game. - VVVVVV, BUY IT NOW. NO ARGUEMENTS. TRUST ME. Me and Madhair agree on this. You know when WE agree on it, it must be true. Hell just watch the trailer and listen to the soundtrack! Also this track, if this doesn't sell you I don't know what will. - Minecraft, does this even count as Indie anymore? Mods - Mission Improbable, a HL2 mod of excellent quality - Research and Development, Source engine game, about 6 hours long and as smart as Portal. I'm not kidding. - The Stanley Parable, very short mod game that questions how we play games. Genius.

What you have to understand is that Steam is actually a game in and of itself. The object of the game is to pay as little as possible for any given game, and unless you buy a game on launch day (and therefore accept full well that you are excluding yourself from the overall Steam game), if you pay a non-discounted price for anything on Steam, you lose.
There are numerous major sales throughout the year, there are special offers every single week (especially weekends) and basically every single game on the platform will be discounted at some point.
In addition to this, there are a few 'bonus' items to score in the Steam game. For one thing, if you ever pay for Portal (1), you lose. It is a fantastic game and everyone should play it, but if you pay real money for it on Steam, you must be doing so the one week it's not being given away for free with everything else.
And then, of course, there's the hats. Know this, that if you start down this real money version of achievement whoring, there is no going back for either your wallet or your dignity - but if you absolutely must, almost every game (sometimes with a special condition, like buy it at launch or whatever) on Steam these days comes with a bonus for Team Fortress 2 - a hat (or twelve). I don't waste my time on this myself, but I'm pretty certain everything is just a cosmetic item, but it's something people go bat[censored] crazy for anyway. If you want to 'win' Steam, though, you're gonna have to get every single hat and get onto a community to show off your freshly grown e-peen.
You're better off saving money than trying to 'win', though. So, basically, don't buy anything on Steam unless it's got a line through its price.
Anyways, it's hard to really recommend games without knowing what your PC's actually capable of and what your gaming tastes are. There's basically everything on Steam, so it's a bit hard to cover every single segment of its spectrum at once. Maybe take a look on Steam itself, see what looks interesting and post here for some reviews.

I notice a distinct lack of TF2 on Retro's list. I'll fight you.
I've sunk more hours into that game than any other. It's a perfect blend of hilarious, well-defined aesthetics and fun, balanced, varied gameplay. Get bored of blowing things up as Soldier? Change to Scout and leave everyone in the dust. Get bored of that? Change to Spy and stab your 'allies' in the back. Bored again? Build and maintain a defensive nest as the Engineer. It's wonderfully addictive.
I have two problems with it; sometimes it's hell to get yourself on a decent server with no lag, balanced teams, and no [censored]s; and for some reason Valve is trying to make each class a solo force, rather than maintain the delicate rock-paper-scissors balance that requires a good, well-rounded team to win. It's yet to break the game, but the Pomson 6000 has come dangerously close.
Best bit? It's free. You don't even have to pay to be good: each new weapon is well-balanced so the default loadouts are just as viable now as they were when they were the only option, and the hats are purely an aesthetic choice (and one I rarely bother with myself. I have a few, but I don't go out of my way to get them or anything).
Anyway yeah get TF2. Pretty much everything Alex and Retro have said apply as well (although I've not played everything on Retro's list so I can't comment); I couldn't believe it the first time I saw the Winter Sales. Everything becomes a [censored]ing pittance, I think I must have nabbed about 6 big-name titles for the same price 1 would cost me on the Xbox. Oh, and get VVVVVV. What a game that is.
Edit: Oh you got the Valve pack. Derrrr Sorry Retro. I won't fight you.

Although I did just buy the Complete Valve pack for £50. Seemed only natural. With Steam, y'know. Has to be done! I was lucky to have my bonus arrive around the Steam summer sale, so I was able to get a new laptop and splash out on their sales! XD Having said that, I still haven't played them all. The Half Life pack I bought was pretty good in terms of how bloody cheap it was, but I still haven't made much progress in any of the games! I so want to just skip most of the first Half Life and just get into Half Life 2, which I have on Orange Box, have played through a few times and bloody love, but no... I must remain strong and finish the first one! I must!I too would recommend waiting until they get another sale.

Trust me, wait till the December Winter Sales and you will see prices like you never believed. Valve annually goes insane around that time every year. I saw Bioshock 1 for 50p once. I have never seen Bioshock 1 for that price but I wouldn't put it past them. The winter sales are mental. Now I'm going to piss and moan about your completely reasonable list. I didn't like it, but I don't think HL1 has aged well in retrospect so this is probably the way to go. Black Mesa's AI was [censored]ed when I tried it, but it's probably fixed now. Not a very good game, frankly. Just Serious Sam 2: The Second Encounter, the others are [censored]. And they're NOT retro-style, I wish people would stop saying that. DooM and Quake did not have massive empty arenas where you had to kill every enemy to proceed. They had intricate, complex maps. Only worth it if you get the Ultra DLC. It's very cheap though. I don't like this one. Yeah VVVVVV is class through and through. It isn't very long but you'll want to play it over and over. While this one is popular, I hate this game, I found it unbelievably trite. It doesn't do anything interesting, the narration is smug and the process is tedious. For much better subversiveness in videogames, see Braid, Spec Ops: the Line, the original Bioshock and Dear Esther.

Definite +1 for VVVVVV, if you haven't already. I would also suggest Limbo, but only if it's on offer as it's relatively short. A nice little excursion though, with a fair bit of atmosphere. There's likely a load of better platformers out there however, see all above for details.

The only thing Limbo has going for it is its unique visual style (which is, admittedly, very good). Absolutely everything else left me cold.
My major gripe with it, though, is its status as a cornerstone of the 'games as art' movement. That's a spectacular exercise in point-missing; I might do a thread on that sometime.

Ooh Limbo don't even ruddy get me started on that pish.
Edit: I feel like you should start that thread, Shay. Even though it would be ruined immediately.

Limbo's a masive pile of poo. And [censored] yes at the Model 2 collection being brought forward and the prices halved. I was thinking about possibly buying one, now I'm definitely buying all three.

The funny thing is the price of all three combined is cheap for a Capcom downloadable fighter.
