Right, I've re-read the comic a couple of times so let's put a bit more effort into my critique this time round. Sonic: good. Obviously it's filler to the point where you could describe the whole strip in about ten words, but it's good filler. The script's got a nice light touch (and have some of the typos been tidied up or am I just not spotting them any more?), and while I didn't initially like the art it's grown on me (although the perspective still seems a little oddly flat at times, particularly page 2). On a side note, I'm starting to really like Chrysalis despite the fact that all she has done thus far is eat out with Amy a couple of times. *waits for someone to quote the last sentence but delete the word "with"* Shorty & Tekno: I'm still fairly indifferent about the whole thing, to be honest. It'll be interesting to see what happens next, though (I'm with the people hoping for Tekno to go for the "manic insanity" route). Amy & Tekno: I understand that there's a lot of dialogue here (more than is needed?) and it's meant to be quite hectic, but the speech bubbles are awful. Even after re-reads it's really hard to work out the order people are speaking in. The story's okay but it's never grabbed me. Incidentally, this whole story has really reminded me of The Phantom Menace for some reason. I think the verdant fields and ornate ships put me in mind of Naboo. Knuckles: best strip of the issue, like I said before. It's solid STC from the solid, unfussy script to the bold artwork. The only bad thing is that now I'm not that bothered about Vichama part 4 because I want to know what Zachary does next, and I've been looking forward to Vichama part 4 for ages. hahaha Vichama part 4. The lost STC storyline.

Sonic story was meh, I neither liked it nor disliked it. I think if it had have been a tougher enemy and they had to come through it without Sonic then I would have loved it. But considering Amy and Tails have came through tougher stuff in solo panels this seemed pretty pointless. We know they are capable, but they still need Sonic against REALLY tough enemies.
Knuckles story I loved for some reason. It wasn't great but I really did like it. Ohhh and I apologise for saying Knuckles was portrayed as too much of a bonehead last issue. That plan was sneaky:P

Thank God it's only season 4. I couldn't even imagine watching the Angel season 5 finale today... I'm planning to watch a couple of Lorne centric episodes later. He was a brilliant character and like Glenn Quinn, he will be missed. I had always been on the lookout for any albums or singles Hallett had released and found none. Shame he won't have the chance to make any now.

Andy Hallett, the actor who played Lorne in Angel has died of heart disease aged 33. Apparently he was told he had a heart condition just after Angel ended and has been suffering with it since.

Yeah, shaky start. It was a bad choice for a pilot, but it wasn't that bad. It does get better. Debatably, I would encourage you to try again, but the pilot is pretty much irredeemable, despite the very last minute or two of footage. Episode 2 is marginally better, ep 3 I really don't like at all, but I think ep4 was very much worth the wait. In any case, Castle is set to air tomorow, so should Dollhouse become impossible to watch there will hopefully be a decent backup show. I liked the pilot, liked episode two and hated episode three (with all it's silly metaphors it was just like a bad Buffy episode). Eliza Dushku has said to hold out till the sixth episode because that's when the show starts to come in to it's own and it's also the next episode Whedon writes. So, I shall wait til episode 6 before making my mind up properly. But so far I like it. It's a new direction for Joss and I think it's a brave step to take. I do agree Eliza is not strong enough an actress to carry her role though. She can't play the blank slate that Echo is (presumably) meant to be. She really is just Faith in another show. However, this has given me ideas for fanfics. The whole Dollhouse corganization could be an extension of some Wolfram & Hart project and it seemed from the pilots opening scene Echo in her other life was some sort of girl on the run. This could easily be Faith (not much of a stretch to assume Faith is an adopted name and Caroline is her birth name). I know when the next episode shed some light on Echo's previous life my theory will be blown out of the water but it is good fanfic material.

Ahhh, you're that guy on New Street who draws charicatures of tourists and shoppers, aren't you?! Nah he's Dick Van [censored] in Mary Poppins and all his drawings take you to weird worlds.

Couldn't find a thread on it so making one here. Just started watching it. For those who don't know, it's Joss Whedon's return to television and it stars Eliza Dushku, who was Faith in Buffy and Angel.
So far so good in my opinion. Great story, and reminds me a little of Dark Angel for some reason, which considering I loved that show, isn't a bad thing.
Anyone else began watching it?

Its [censored] that they nominate films that arnt even out in the UK. Its like they do it on purpose so we cant even an opinion. >__> I live in the UK and I've seen most of these films. The Wrestler is out now, Changeling has been out for a while. Ok, I torrented Bejamin Button and I only saw Slumdog yesterday but still there are a good few nominations out now. Wall-E for best [censored]ing screenplay!? Jesus wept. Also, who cares about the Oscars? Hollywood awarding itself accolades for its [censored]ty movies. Big whoop. I may be way off here but do you read the blog What Would Tyler Durden Do?

Also, Edd Ed and Eddy is dire.

If anyone hasn't seen them yet, here they are. In my opinion they are an absolute joke. Really disappointed in them but I haven't seen all the films so I'm not really in a position to comment I guess. But from what I have seen of some, there were many great films omitted for key awards.
Best Picture
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Millk The Reader Slumdog Millionaire
I would have done it like this:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon The Wrestler The Changeling The Reader
I haven't seen Milk but Slumdog Millionaire isn't THAT good as it should be ahead of The Wrestler or The Changeling. It's just popcorn cinema. The Changeling is one of the best films I've seen in a long time.
Best Director
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Frost Nixon Milk The Reader Slumdog Millionaire
Exactly the same as Best Picture. And I'd change it almost exactly with a couple of differences
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (David Fincher) Revolutionary Road (Sam Mendes) The Changeling (Clint Eastwood) Slumdog Millionare (Danny Boyle) The Dark Knight (Chris Nolan)
The Dark Knight is included here because it is a fantastic film and superbly directed. It could also have a nod for best picture as it was the highest grossing film of last year but Hollywood politics dictate superhero movies are cheap so...
Best Actor in a Leading Role
Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) Sean Penn (Milk) Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler)
This category isn't too bad and I can't think of any changes for it except maybe sticking in Leonardo Di Caprio somewhere.
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) Angelina Jolie (Changeling) Melissa Leo (Frozen River) Meryl Streep (Doubt) Kate Winslet (The Reader)
Pretty much the same as what I would have to be fair so no real complaints
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Josh Brolin (Milk) Robert Downey Jr (Tropic Thunder) Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road)
It's a moot point because it has Heath Ledger's name written all over it but I would replace Michael Shannon in favour of John Malkovich of Changeling
Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Amy Adams (Doubt) Penelope Cruz (Vicky Christina Barcelona) Viola Davis (Doubt) Taraji P Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler)
Cate Blanchett misses out in Benjamin Button here and Kate Winslet misses out when she was favourite to get the second Oscar. I'm not a Winslet fan but I feel she could have been nominated instead of Penelope Cruz.
Best Original Screenplay
Frozen River Happy Go Lucky In Bruges Milk Wall-E
I would do it like this
The Wrestler Changeling Wall-E and any two others (possibly Autralia)
Best Adapted Screenplay
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Doubt Frost/Nixon The Reader Slumdog Millionaire
Again I'd take out Slumdog Millionaire as it is just popcorn cinema and repace it with Revolutonary Road.
So needless to say I am disappointed with the major nominations and disagree with most of them. But ah well, that as they say, is life...

Million Dollar Baby would have been so fun if Woody Allen directed it. Just think! Insted it makes me cry. I want to see that Changling film though. Thats the one about the kid not being hers isnt it? The ad looked...good. Went to see it tonight and loved it. There were parts that dragged a little but not to the point of boredom and the plot was intriguing and well executed. I'm maybe overrating it a little but I have to say I really liked it.

Angelina Jolie once again proves why she is one of the best actresses this generation has to offer. What? She did something notable before? Oh! Yes, he is. Which two? ... Typo of the highest order. Boy am I red. I meant Clint Eastwood. Sorry, was looking at the advert for the new Woody Allen film as I was typing. Also, Jolie is very versatile and has been in a lot of great films. Sure her stock has risen more recently but I can honestly say I find her to be a brilliant actress. Winslet on the other hand just annoys me. I only like her in two films and yet everyone holds her in such high regard. And her British accent, while real, is more intolerable than Jolie's.

I found it hilarious that Kate Winslet forgot Angelina Jolie was competing for a globe... then again, does anyone really care about the Golden Globes?! Having just returned from the cinema after seeing The Changeling, I can honestly say Jolie was robbed. Changeling is the best film I've seen in a while and Angelina Jolie once again proves why she is one of the best actresses this generation has to offer. And Woody Allen is a fantastic director. I've only seen two of his films (this and Million Dollar Baby) and loved them both.

I'm a great fan of Carrey, I'm gonna go against the general consensus and admit I wasn't actually a fan of Eternal Sunshine, was an ok movie but nowhere near as good as people made out. Haven't seen The Number 23 yet, the previews I saw didn't really make it particularly appeal to me. I still think Dumb and Dumber is possibly the funniest comedy ever. Must say though, I think Cable Guy is criminally underrated, I remember it got badly slated when it first came out because it was Jim Carrey trying to do something different from his usual face-pulling antics, but I thought he was really good in it, and the film itself is nowhere near as bad as people make out either. I thought Jim Carrey was brilliant in the Cable Guy but Ben Stiller killed that movie. He should never direct. Or act. Hell, he should have to request permission to breathe.

I found it hilarious that Kate Winslet forgot Angelina Jolie was competing for a globe... then again, does anyone really care about the Golden Globes?! Being the movie maniac I am, I like all sorts of award ceremonies. Even if a little part of me goes "wait a minute. Hollywood pays these actors millions of dollars to do their job and then rewards them for it with trophies? What the [censored]?" But that's just when I'm looking for a rant. I also see the Golden Globes as a good predictor for the Oscars which is annoying cos that could mean Winslet wins an Oscar. She is such an overrated actress who really only gets work because she dosen't have anything against doing nude scenes. If their was artistic merit on just getting naked on film then Jenna Haze would scoop all the awards...

He was good in Batman Forever. The film as a whole sucks, though. And no, Yes Man is not a work of art. I saw it recently and it's a testament to Jim Carrey's comic ability that I actually found it enjoyable. It's a perfectly enjoyable family comedy, like most of his movies. It's also a commercial for Red Bull. The amount of product placement in this flick is staggering... (Also, as me and the friend we saw it with can testify, the film is a lot funnier if you relate almost every line to AIDS in some way. Yes, we're childish. Couldn't stop laughing at the seminar scene because of this) Edit: Also, I spent a lot of time wondering where Danny Wallace's obligatory cameo would show up until I spotted him. Have any of you read his book, upon which this film is loosely based? It's woeful. Yeah, like I say, haven't seen a film he's bad in but a few films he's been in suck. I for one disliked Ace Ventura and The Cable Guy (Ben Stiller's directing sucks and completely killed that movie). Also yeah, I never claimed it to be a work of art just an enjoyable movie in it's own right and not one of the really [censored] comedies that are released way too often and seem to be the fashion.

The Truman Show is the best Jim Carrey film, followed very closely by Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Everything else is good but not great, except for Liar Liar which is excellent, and The Number 23 which is horrid. Have you seen Man On The Moon? It's by far his best performance and a brilliant movie. But Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine closely follow. I have to say I loved The Number 23. I thought it was fantastic.

What the hell did I just watch? Seconded, stuff like that scares the [censored] out of me. It's like that adventures of Tom Sawyer claymation video. It's meant to be comedy and funny yeah? It makes me want to watch Bugs Bunny. At least I know where I stand with that rabbit.

It's a Jim Carrey movie. If you enjoy Jim Carrey movies, you'll enjoy this. It's got exactly the same humour you'll find in any other Carrey movie. It's pretty fun, but I don't think it'll be making any top lists. I agree for the most part except for the implication that every Jim Carrey movie is the same. I agree it's his basic kinda humor but it's not the same as ANY other Carrey movie. Jim Carrey and Robin Williams both get typecast like this and everyone thinks they are just the goofy guys. This is partly why they are my favourite actors. Anyone who has seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Number 23 will know what I mean. My favourite film happens to be a Carrey film too (Man On The Moon). This film is no different than what people have come to expect of him thanks to films like Liar Liar, but it's not the same as any other Jim Carrey film.

8/10.

Ledger on Supporting Actor? Isn't "supporting " actor classified as those actors in a secondary role, to look at Dark Knight that would be people like Albert (Caine) and Lucius Fox. (Freeman) The Joker is one of the three main characters in it, so isn't that placeable in the "lead actor" segment? While I agree, there can only be one lead actor and any others are those who support him. Bale is unarguably the lead actor so Ledger can only be placed in the supporting category. On that note, I have to say I was a little moved by the standing ovation he received and Nolan gave a nice speech on his behalf.
