New anime inspired by the Sega/Nintendo console wars. Pretty bizarre concept. See how many of the above characters you can "identify". I managed four (though one was given away in the article I read, and a further two were sort-of guesses that just happened to be correct). Nevertheless, an intriguing series I'll be sure to keep my eye on details for in the future. Sony wins.

The four I got were 1 - Sonic (mainly cos the article spoiled that from the off), 3 - Nei from Phantasy Star (sorta-guess, was surprisingly correct), 6 - Mario and 12 - Samus. Apparently 4 & 5 are Tetris and Columns, respectively. Curious! Devo and Blizz were mostly correct though.

So I just got around to watching the MGX anime, and it's perhaps more adorable than the manga.

I really used to like Bleach back when it started. Rukia and Ichigo were brilliant, they bounced off one another so well, and the supporting cast were similarly likeable. Then Rukia got kidnapped and the whole thing went to hell. Thirty billion episodes of fights, power-ups, and generally just formulaic, Dragon Ball Z-type formulaic nonsense.
On a similar note, I love Dragon Ball but find Z a chore. The original was constantly refreshing and imaginative, especially the manga.

Finished Lain. Bit of a weak ending. Interesting subject matter.
So this year, I've done Madoka, Big O, Serial Experiments Lain and about half of Cowboy Bebop. Going to finish Bebop and then see where I go from there.

Just a heads-up - just plain don't bother with the aforementioned "console wars" series, as it is a total crock of [censored] disaster. It uses every anime cliché in the book to tiresome effect, has literally no beginning (save for the godawful establishing scene where "Tails" dies), no build-up or character development, instead choosing to pretty much drop you straight into the middle of whatever the hell it is that's going on. Shoehorns in a couple of cheap, horrible ecchi moments when it isn't at all neccessary or appropriate. The character Tejirof as a whole makes me cringe, despair and facepalm all at the same time with his blatant innuendos and generally disgusting behaviour. Despite it being a typical half-hour episode affair, episodes are inexplicably being released on a quarterly basis, which is frankly still too often. An animated quality-vacuum, a generic mess of a "plot", a complete cartoon catastrophe. Avoid like diarrhoea.

I'd quite like to expand my horizons when it comes to anime, would anyone be able to recommend something? ^_^; Preferably not something with a million side-series' or seasons for that matter, something I could watch in my spare time and not have to make too much of a commitment to.
I'm not sure what exactly I'd like, but something with a decent story that keeps you interested, I liked Pokemons of course, but every episode is practically the same nowadays. I also liked this one called Blood+, which had quite a good story. (I'm aware that there's a new Blood-C but apparently THAT'S NO GOOD). I also really like The Last Airbender (Not the film!) and the Legend of Korra. So something with a story and a villain I guess. Suggestions welcome guys!

Finished Toradora! It's Toradorable. Final arc is a bit jittery in terms of plot, but other than that it was amazing. There are so many scenes that feel like they're directed at me personally, so much so that it got a bit eerie. I wish I'd seen this back in secondary school. XD

Hope no-one minds me bumping an old thread, but it IS the Anime thread and it is already on page one. ^_^; I'm not too experienced with Anime, I've seen some obvious ones - Mononoke, Deathnote - but I'm not really part of the scene, so to speak. However I have, thanks to Netflix US, been getting more into it lately. I enjoyed Eden of the East (Even though it was confusing toward the end) and I thought The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was excellent. I just last night discovered Ghosthunt, which is great; it reminds me slightly of the investigation sections of Phoenix Wright, but different. I'd love some more recommendations, as lots of animes that sound good don't really live up to it. Rosario Vampire was too fanservicey, for example, but had a good idea behind it.

Well I've made a semblance of progress these past few days, in regards to DVDs; Watched the complete series of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, which was insane but brilliant. I'd argue whether it's more or less barmy than Excel Saga but I haven't seen that in years now (planning to rewatch it at some indeterminate point in the future.) Had Birdy The Mighty on the go, watched the first half of the series, got the second still to come. Have also made a start on Shiki, only a couple eps in so far, looking promising.
Over on Crunchyroll, I've made progress on Attack On Titan, just to see what all the fuss was about. Still a ways to go yet, but I can see why it's acclaimed. Actually really enjoying it so far! Also been watching Free - Iwatobi Swim Club, very nice. Gintama, which is fun but exceptionally long so it'll be something to plod through in a pinch. Got the main series of the legendary Black Jack to start (watched the 4 OVAs), and the rest of Watamote which has been on hold for a fair bit longer than I thought.
I have plenty of other series queued that I either haven't or have barely started, such as Tantei Opera Milky Holmes (as suggested by you-probably-know-who). Only a couple eps in, but good so far.

Made it to episode 3 of Another. I am currently in the process of removing all umbrellas from my vicinity. I tried watching the first episode of that and I just found it dull. :/ However, I did recently watch all of Highschool of the Dead and I've started watching through Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (which so far isn't nearly as dreadful as I had been led to believe).

Halfway through Shiki now. Really good, main character's situation at the midpoint of the series has me hooked, looking forward to seeing how it's resolved. In the meantime, started part two of Birdy. Arc looking promising, though it could do with realising a bit more space-opera stuff.
Not much to report on Crunchyroll. Couple more episodes of Gintama, and decided to watch the rest of Free. Wonderful series, both charming and uplifting. If there's a second run, I'll be all over that.
I've also bought some more DVDs that I probably won't watch for ages. Sengoku Basara boxset, and the 2nd and 3rd live-action Death Note films. I've got and read the whole manga series and the films are a bit different to them. The L film is, of course, the most intriguing, even though in all likelihood it'll be a bit crap.
