Don't judge the movie by that then. Unfortunately I don't have the time or money to go and see every film before I decide whether or not I'm interested in it. All of the jokes in the trailer are unfunny, the little girl's voice is annoying beyond reason, the premise of the film is dull and hackneyed, the art-style is homogenised and bland, the in-jokes are blatant pandering, and most importantly every single non-Pixar Disney CGI film that I've seen (Bolt, Tangled, etc) has been trash.

Every piece of publicity for The Dark Knight Rises indicated to me that the film was going to be an unmitigated disaster.
Not saying it was the best thing ever, but it definitely wasn't as bad as what various photographs, trailers and write-ups had led me to believe.
[censored] knows if that can apply to this, but it's not impossible that they can eke an enjoyable enough movie out of this concept.
Incidentally, everything about Bolt had me utterly turned off it too, but I watched it on TV last Christmas and quite enjoyed it despite itself.
Not every piece of entertainment has to be a masterpiece. If people enjoy it because it's entertaining, then that really is enough.

I don't know who you're kidding Stu. We both know you'll end up watching it. Probably not ever having paid for it, and you'll still say it's [censored], but we both know you're going to end up watching it, late one night, having spent several hours legally waiting for a ... "private screening" on your PC thanks to some slightly less than scrupulous pirating.
Incidentally I have no real opinion yet. I'll inevitably end up seeing it in much the same way I've seen an alarmingly high amount of 3D animated movies ever since I started living with an animation student. So long as it's not as bad as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, or Shark Tail, then it won't be a complete waste.

...the little girl's voice is annoying beyond reason,.. That's Sarah Silverman for you! I do find the crossover swap a little jarring... then again Sonic the Corporate Mascot has been slapped on a lot of things... that awful insurance advert springs to mind. However from a design point of view I'm interested in seeing how they animate the character. On the other hand a few articles I have seen suggest they don't really know what they are doing with Sonic as a character - they seem to think he loses rings when he falls over.... right.... Now, I'm not really into the modern games, but I am pretty sure falling over and losing rings is not a typical Sonic game mechanism!

Sonic is a character who can die if so much as brushed past by a working robot. At most, it's a remarkably slight exaggeration.

Stu is absolutely correct. Trailers should sell a movie, make you want to go and see it, and if it fails in that respect then it has failed as a trailer. The movie could be the best of its kind, but if it has a crap trailer attached then I don't think I can be blamed for not being interested. Judge a book by its cover, I say, life's too short to do otherwise. All of which is to say nothing of Wreck-It Ralph, but when literally the only point of interest it can muster for me is "it's got video game characters in it", I can't get remotely excited. Video game humour mostly consists of in-jokes and references, the latter of which is my least favourite kind of written humour, and Wreck-It Ralph doesn't appear to be trying to buck that trend. I'm not ruling out the possibility of it being good, and I'm not saying that you shouldn't go and see it, but the trailer has pushed none of my buttons and thus I'm not planning on doing so. So long as it's not as bad as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs then it won't be a complete waste. Let me find the right words for this [censored] you.

Probably not ever having paid for it, and you'll still say it's [censored], but we both know you're going to end up watching it, late one night, having spent several hours legally waiting for a ... "private screening" on your PC thanks to some slightly less than scrupulous pirating. I could download it in about ten minutes, you must think I'm stuck on [censored]ing dial-up. And no, I don't expect I will be watching. Best I can offer is a Youtube compilation of the cameos. I expect that'll be fun, to go "heh, it's the final boss of Altered Beast. I recognise that". Just not for two hours with interspersed doses of mediocrity and lame humour. Easily the best non-Pixar one. Hilarious from top to tail. Not every piece of entertainment has to be a masterpiece. If people enjoy it because it's entertaining, then that really is enough. I find this a really odd comment, and I'll try to explain why nicely, because I like you. Of course it's alright to be entertained, a piece of media doesn't necessarily have to aspire to anything more - I watch Cloudy and I love it, because it's funny and creative. It doesn't do much new but it's about the best example of a kid's film that has broad appeal without being crude that I can think of. The humour is second to none. It's not like, making me feel feelings, but it's good! Wreck It Ralph is like... I dunno, man, I don't want to put 90 minutes of my life into it to confirm my suspicions, which are in my experience usually accurate. I hate Nam saying that I'll watch it and say it's [censored] even if I like it, I find that kind of obnoxious because I've been known to revise my opinion of things ceaselessly, on STCO no less. Old-timers will know how vociferously I used to hate Sonic CD and Rush, amongst other things. I dunno, I'm not the kind to decide in advance to hate stuff, but trailers are marketing and the marketing is not hitting the spot for me. I just hate the insinuation that I'm being deliberately contrarian, because all my behaviour is very, very considered. Especially lately. Edit: I realised I didn't really explain why I found it odd to say. Stuff that's "not a masterpiece" is obviously subjective, as is "masterpiece"dom itself. I don't like to use the term, it's usually applied to stuff that doesn't really interest me on any level. Getting back into objectivity again really, but there are things I reckon are peerless, but it doesn't preclude others from having an opinion. Most of the films in my top ten are disliked by most or regarded as curios, because my tastes are so [censored]ed in the arse and always have been, since childhood. The Blues Brothers is my favourite movie ever, and it's a very trite thing, I can see that. The movie is all over the place, but I love it. Looney Tunes: Back in Action, that's in my top ten and it was critically savaged. The weirdest thing is, that movie's like the "classic animation" version of Wreck-It Ralph. Speed Racer - loathed by most, absolutely sets me on fire. Love it so, so much. Perhaps, basically, I'm not the best one to say what does and doesn't make a good movie in terms of subjectivity - though I can recognise and appreciate good cinematography etc in otherwise [censored]ty movies - but I can still say when I don't like the look of something. Just because it's not The Magnificent Ambersons doesn't mean it won't have merit, but equally it doesn't mean it well. If you read all that, here's Kyouko to round things off.

I see two mouths... Yeah. Unsettling, isn't it? I think it was made during the 2D Sonic era... This was the Sonic section of Alton Towers old Toyland Tours ride, now Charlie and the Chocolate factory, I believe... it's supposed to look like 2D Sonic from the two angles you look at it from the widdle boat thingies, but from this angle it looks weird. The background I seem to recall was a wall of TVs showing scenes from Sonic CD. Modern Sonic is the theme of what was the Spinball Whizzer.. now the Sonic Spinball Whizzer, geddit? My point in posting that was that its hardly a new thing to slap Sonic on something for marketing purposes! Oh and what the trailer does do for for me is make me want to watch ReBoot again. That show was ace. Corny, but ace.

To be fair I haven't seen anything to suggest that it will be anything beyond the usual pap Disney puts out. Other than Robotnik and Bison in the same room. Together. The entire movie should just be that.
I'm sure it will be quite funny, the story will be ok. But I do think they are selling the movie MORE on LooksitsSawnick! rather than its own story, characters etc
However I cant wait to see Disney Pixar do its homage to Anime.

Of course will see it. I must. Oh, the cheers when the trailer was shown at Sonic Boom. I thought only Eggman was in it. Nope, Sonic gets his motivational speaker cameo as well. I myself felt the need to gloat until my belly exploded like it was full of nitroglycerin. Did anyone else think Portal would be improved if the saying was "The Cake is a PIE" ;D I actually subvert that meme a lot by saying just that. Alternatively, the less funny "The pie is a fake."

Just saw it an hour ago; here's the long and short of it:
this movie is [censored]ing terrific.
It's a film purely conceived at an executive level as a licensing workhorse, and it shows on the surface; there's product placement and references to actual product everywhere.
But the actual film when it comes to the making of it is marvelous and lovingly crafted. One of the single best gags in the film (and there are many) involves, simply, a group of Oreo cookies chanting the word "Oreo" in different ways over and over while marching back and forth with spears. Although that sounds terrible in writing, it hits like a giddy punch on screen in a way I can't explain.
Rich Moore is to blame for that; this was the director behind the Futurama episodes Jurrasic Bark and Roswell That Ends Well and he brings that same deft touch to this movie. The comic touches are handled brilliantly as possibly can be, and are balanced by an actual emotional heft that isn't forced or sanitized.
For those of you (hi stu hey hi hi) who see this as pandering, or who are worried that it's a film constructed around pavlovian response; it's not. At all. There are references by the score but they're there at the edges of things, in the background. All of the main characters and story elements are crafted whole cloth for the film. It would work well without any licensing at all, but with it added in it's sheer bonus; it's eye and ear candy. Which isn't to say that the simple difference between a generic 8-bit chime and that one up sound isn't something to appreciate, because it is. But it doesn't break the film to think of it lacking that, and that's both surprising and wonderful.
It's not perfect, mind. There's a slow ten to twenty minutes in the center where it gets a bit murky and boggy (and a bit sappy) but it picks it back up like [censored]ing gangbusters at the end. The writing is otherwise snappy, brilliant, and well-conserved; the plot is unconventional, complicated, and works like a charm. Like The Hunger Games (wow this is probably the only time you're going to see these two films compared) it has enough narrative ideas in it to fit in a whole season of a television show, but its paced well enough that it never feels like a much of a muchness.
Also, apropos of nothing, the film has the best score of any movie made this year, hands down. It's pure melodic energy.
Like the film, really. It's pure energy.
I don't expect this to convince anyone of anything (hi stu) but my vote is to check it out (stu, hi). It's the best Walt Disney Animation Studios have probably pulled together since Lilo and Stitch, and my smile during the film was wider than it's been for any film since The Muppets, or even Fantastic Mr. Fox, maybe.
Really quite something.
