I am baffled by your implication that Stu is the only person that doesn't want to see this.
I'm also baffled at how a positive review has made me less enthusiastic about seeing the film.

you are remarkable, you know that Prior to it coming back, I mean. There haven't been any good episodes since then. And yeah, I'm not really remarkable, Futurama fans are just pretty unremarkable and easy to impress. Thankfully the show was basically 72 episodes of excellence, and even Jurassic Bark is superb until the awful last minute or so, which is a tacked-on, cloying bit of please give us an emmy sentimentality that people pretend is meaningful because they think being sensitive is some measure of personal worth. The sequence is mendacious and tacky, and reminding people of their beloved dead pets in order to manipulate enough public praise from the weak-willed to earn an industry award is disgraceful.

I'll agree with you about more or less everything said here; I've never had the emotional connection with that episode everyone else seems to ( The Luck of the Fryrish is a much better attempt at emotional resonance, and it doesn't betray its central plot. It also doesn't feature Walking on Sunshine, and also it isn't built around how sad dead dogs are so). That all being said, Ralph is much closer to the tone maintained throughout Roswell that Ends Well (an episode that I initially didn't care for but have loved more and more upon each rewatch); there's a a similar deft juggle of multiple character narratives that slowly build up to a single end point. It's extremely fun, and it's detailed fun, with texture filling in the gaps between the broad strokes. The sentimality, for what it's worth, is narratively consistent when it inevitably arrives, if fairly reminiscent of The Iron Giant.

Yeah, Fryrish is a superb piece of work. Thanks for your detailed impressions, I'm more interested in seeing the movie now.

I've caved and watched this... and I thought it was OK, just another Disney film. The story was predictable now that I think about it; all the stuff that happens is exactly what I would expect from a Disney film, but it still had a nice (and rather terrifying for kids) twist. I quite liked Ralph as a character - his story didn't completely fill the film, there were other things going on besides his quest. He was easy to empathise with (it's a kids' film, come on! XD) even when his action seemed questionable. I quite liked his characterisation as well; sure he's a bad guy but he has traits besides that. Venellope wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be either, for example I liked that she showed determination to win... but then realised she didn't know how to drive! There is of course a reason for that... which reminds me, I am confused about her function in Sugar Rush - when she repairs the game, she is still a glitch... as the restored princess, shouldn't she be a proper game character? As for the games - of course I squeed like an idiot at the retro games. I love the way the Fix it Felix Jnr characters are animated. I liked the Hero's Duty sections, I thought they were a pretty good parody of Halo, Time Crisis arcade games and the like. Interesting way incorporate the "first person shooter" as well. Sugar Rush, eehh I felt its theme as a candy world kinda detracted from the idea that this is a game world, such as the walking Oreos (which I took as a Simpson's reference.. :B). I think there should have been a bit more made of it as a game, for example when the two fat kids are hogging it from the blonde girl. And yes, I am ashamed to admit it but I did try to spot all the Sonic cameos! XD Besides the public service announcement, I mean. (and I was sooo expecting him to say "that's no good" instead of "game over"!) I think I found him four times, hanging out in the background, doing amusing stuff. And for me, that was just fine. I was worried he would be in the main cast, considering he is plastered all over the film posters (here it's called Raubíř Ralf... and yes those posters are everywhere.) and that for me would be a bit jarring. Now what worries me is the shoehorning of Ralph into All-Stars Racing, but never mind... Overall, it's not the marketing [censored]house I was worried it would be, nor is it the "hey kids, here's a cool guy in ya face!" theme like I feel the Shrek films are. It's just a Disney film, doing Disney stuff. In fact it kinda makes me want to watch The Little Mermaid! XD It's similar in that it's someone that isn't happy with their current environment and wants something else... going to extreme measures to get it. Aww.
