If the west is taking it back over, hopefully we can go back to Mobius and Robotnik. 'Eggman' sounds ridiculous to any age group. I would have been 13/14 in 2001, and I thought 'Eggman' sounded [censored] then.

He's been Eggman longer than he's been Robotnik in both America and in Europe. I can't see the name being changed back again.

Funny thing is that the games are actually good at keeping the Robotnik name close. I mean sure, he's known as Eggman by everyone else, but there's plenty of instances where he refers to himself as Robotnik.

I think oh god am I wrong I think i'm wrong To my knowledge, he hasn't referred to himself as Robotnik since Sonic Adventure. In that game they managed a neat compromise between the Eastern and Western continuities; Robotnik was his real name and stated as such, but Sonic and his friends referred to him as Eggman (usually just to piss him off). However, Sonic Adventure 2 came along and Robotnik started calling himself Eggman, and that stupidity has stayed with the series to this day. |

Seriously though that sounds right, it's really strange that he would decide to continue to use the name Eggman after so long. I'd have to re-watch the cutscenes for Sonic Generations to see if classic robotnik ever adopts the name either.

Classic Tails refers to Classic Eggman as Robotnik, but Classic Eggman just shrugs off with a dismissive "Nobody calls me THAT anymore", as he's been hanging out with Modern Eggman for a while. |

Another concern is how the introduction of the Boomiverse is going to affect the Archie comics. The comics have already gone through enough changes following the Penders fiasco ([censored]ING PENDERS!!  ), will the emergence of a new sub-franchise result in Archie having to make further alterations to an already fractured continuity? I'd hope that Sega told them in advance, so their reboot could easily resemble Sonic Boom (at least in terms of character designs) - that could even be why it happened now. |

Okay, a few things.  1. One of the writers of this wrote Daring Don't? Yay. XD  2. Knuckles... the shape and texture of his arms - maybe it's just me, but they remind me of those water snakes you used to get. You know the ones? They were basically inside-out water balloons, and they'd slip out of your grasp. I just want to prod Knuckles's arms as a result. XD I would have also had him be the same height as Sonic, if not slightly shorter. Everyone knows the shorter mans are the toughest (Bigby Wolf \o/ ) 3. I find myself... willing to give this a chance.  This seems to add a western approach, and as we all know,the western expanded universes are brill. <3 Hopefully it won't prove me wrong. (4. Sonic with blue arms works better than I thought. ) |

I saw other trailers I gotta say they look cool and to answer People's questions:
This is a parallel world not connected to the main series so the original designs still exist but they are just having a break for now as it seems so people dont need to worry about the redesigns of the characters
The game to most fans looks like ratchet and clank future series thats because the game is being made by the same
people that working on the series so thats sorted
Thats all to the questions asked to the sonic fanbase

I think the bad guys should have more visceral, grotesque designs than they normally do, like how the bad guys look all grotesque in Ninja Turtles.
Blaze should also appear as the only good anthro other than the main 4.

Apparently the cartoon wont have an overarching story. So its mostly played for laughs.
So yeah, I was reading up on Big Red Button. Mostly made up of ex - Naughty Dog and Insomniac employers and One Chris "I tried to make Sonic Xtreme but I got [censored]ing ill" Senn.

I love how Takashi Iizuka keeps referring to Sonic as 'Modern Sonic' as if he's a separate entity from just 'Sonic'.
Anyway, environments look lovely, but that's about all I'm sold on. Everything else seems as confused as it was at the beginning. Apparently Sonic has an energy whip as a weapon? Baffling.

Letting the designs sink in for a bit brings me to the following conclusions:
Amy and Tails look good. I'm actually 100% on board with them now.
Sonic is still overdesigned, but passable.
Everything about Knuckles still looks hideously wrong in every form he's presented in.
The designs seem to work somewhat well in the Sonic Boom cartoon, from what we've seen - but the behind the scenes video from the other day, centering on stuff like that 'Avengers' group shot just emphasise how [censored]ing awkward and lanky their designs all are in-game. Even their faces just look wrong, like badly made plasticine models.
Iizuka seems to be quick to point out in every instance that Sonic Team are keeping separate from this thing entirely, presumably either on the expectation that it'll bomb spectacularly or that they just won't want anything to do with Western Sonic if it's successful.
So much of the top level discussion and impetus around this game just reminds me so, so, so much of Sonic 2006 it's actually becoming unreal.
