Aw, bless. That render of Jade with her tiny clothes and Liefeld proportions/posing is just so '90s.
I'm going to presume it was deliberate.

This roster's getting crowded.

I'm feeling a bit skeptical about this now. I was under the impression they were keeping a reserved roster for the series reform. It just seems to be building and building now, as is the case with many other fighting series these days.
It really is unfortunate that it's gotten to the point where you have to include every character in the franchise in order to stop people from complaining. Street Fighter IV got it right by sticking to a roster of 20-odd characters; the SF2 cast, a handful of new characters and a few extra ones from various points of the series.
MK9 seems to be sticking with the characters already in existence rather than attempting to expand the series any further. While I'm aware there are over 60 characters that have been playable in the series thus far, I found the initial idea of starting afresh, with a generation of new characters and a handful of the classics, to be quite intriguing. I'm starting to get the inpression that it isn't going to happen.

That's not getting it right- it's extortion.
There's nothing wrong with a crowded roster as long as the characters are all varied and balanced.
Besides which, we've always known the size of the roster for this game- there've been screenshots floating around with the character select screen with question marked boxes in it. All this means is we know who a lot of those boxes are. It's not exactly a huge roster- in fact, fewer characters have been announced than final amount in the original SFIV, considerably less than, say, Tekken 6, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 or various other fighting games.
I really don't see how this has made the game less promising.

The roster size isn't making the game less promising, I should clarify, it's just a general observation about fighting games. I'm skeptical because of the fact that it looks like the series is stagnating a little. A few fresh faces wouldn't go amiss, but this doesn't look like it's happening with this release, which has disappointed me a little.
Gameplay's looking fine, however, from the bits I've seen so far. But I don't know, there's something about it that feels.... it's been done before. There's nothing particularly special or stand-out about it that I've seen.

I'm probably behind the times on this one: they've included Babalities. Now, I know their inclusion won't cause the game to sprial into [censored]tiness, but damn it so much for "We're keeping it simple. None of the extra crap that built up over the course of the series".
I was content with the senseless violence.

Actually the only reason we know that is because the demo was ripped. And now youtube videos. And the whole game has been leaked out. Pretty Much. I know the beginning and the end of the game. All, I'm going to say - Very Bittersweet. And Raiden is [censored]. Also - Skarlett (Red Leg Girl) and Kenshi are DLC.

I always liked the Babalities and Friendships. And Animalities for that matter. They made me giggle.
Who was it that turned into a penguin and laid an explosive egg? Was it Scorpion?

I just wanna see Shao Kahn unmasked. I've seen his comic face but the only game in which he's unmasked is Shaolin Monks, and none of the Youtube vids I've seen of his boss fight do him justice.

Wasn't he unmasked in the second movie? and wasnt. it. GLORIOUS!? Gamewise, on the other hand....I dont beleive he ever was unmasked aside from Shoulin Monks.

As I said, and the lousy quality of the videos just makes his face look like a blob. In the old comic, he looked a bit like a Tarkatan (Baraka's race, although he was just one of a bunch of different mutants in the comic). If he looks like that in the games, that's bound to raise a few questions given that the Tarkatans are pretty much the scum of Outworld.

I just read this thread from beginning to end, as I noticed I made it. Would really love to get the latest MK game, not sure what happened with Armageddon as I didn't end up getting it? Also, Nights, I seemed to have been a real [censored] to you 6 years ago lol. I'm sorry!

Would really love to get the latest MK game, not sure what happened with Armageddon as I didn't end up getting it? Armageddon was [censored]. You missed out on nothing: the gameplay was mostly awful and, in terms of story, there was no concrete ending given. Besides, this new one has erased all of it anyway.

Armageddon was such a cluster [censored] storywise that they did a weak Back to the Future thing with this game. You haven't missed anything.
Taven isn't even mentioned in this game and seeing as Armageddon was centred around him then Armageddon is not really mentioned.

I actually found Armageddon kind of fun - but then again, it's not like I'd played MK at all since I was a kid, so it was as much a nostalgia trip as anything.

This game's great. Has to be in the top three MK games, at least. The fighting engine is right, with no strafing or unnecessary weapons/styles. The fatalities are insane. And while the story contradicts more than the premise allows (why is Quan Chi at the MK1 tournament??) it's very well written.

I actually found Armageddon kind of fun - but then again, it's not like I'd played MK at all since I was a kid, so it was as much a nostalgia trip as anything. I always preferred Deception over Armageddon myself. Deception - IMO - was a more balanced game with a more interesting Konquest Mode filled with lots and lots of quests and side quests which often led to me spending forever in a Realm doing lots of little side quests while not actually achieving anything story-wise. The only thing Armageddon had for me was the custom character maker. Sure, Armageddon had it's own story mode, but it wasn't that exciting for me. Also, the huge (well, a lot bigger than Deception's somewhat 30) character roster in no way made up for the nerfed combos which were no longer than about 5 buttons, making it hard to get a good fight going compared to Deception which had some combos at 10+ buttons. Armageddon is in no way a bad game at all, I did enjoy it, but quality over quantity in this case for me.

I really liked Deceptions Konquest mode, the only bad thing about it was that there was no journal/mission log or anything like that to keep you reminded of all your sidequests. I remember you could start off as being a young Shujinko, and then finish the quest as an old man and the person would still be there in that realm, not aged in the least! Made me laugh. Anyway.. started MK last night, watched the opening and then my wife went evil and turned it off half way through just as young Raiden received the message from old Raiden. Now she's hidden it from me, so god knows when I'll be playing it again!
