Kingdom Come: AKA Watchmen with Superheroes. Seriously, great read but it has the sense of deja vu about it. *twitch* Oh wait, you mean superpowered heroes. None of those in Watchmen. Yeah, apart from Dr Manhattan. You know what I mean anyway.

Yeah, apart from Dr Manhattan. You know what I mean anyway. One of us is being sarcastic, and I honestly don't know who. Personally, I wouldn't really compare Watchmen to Kingdom Come, but thats just me. Similar themes, yeah, but... I dunno. Watchmen is more "real."

Have you tried his Thor? Its pretty good. Of the Thor comics I plan to read it ranks pretty low. Kingdom Come: AKA Watchmen with Superheroes. I really regret starting this thread sometimes...

Kingdom Come: AKA Watchmen with Superheroes. I really regret starting this thread sometimes... Why for? Reading parts of Kingdom Come reminded me of parts of Watchmen. Admittedly it wasn't the wisest thing I've said, implying that they are both the same only one has people with super powers. Oh well. Too many people have seen it now. Fiddle de dee.

Of the Thor comics I plan to read it ranks pretty low. Oh, then have you tried the Walter Simonson Visionary collection? Its better than JMS. That's one of them yes. Simonson seems like someone whose work I'd like but I've never actually tried any of his stuff. I kept meaning to get the Elric book he did but then I must have gotten distracted by something shiny, or a pretty girl, or a pretty girl wrapped in something shiny... Actually Thor's a prime example of why I don't read many modern superhero books. I'll hear recommendations for The Incredible Hercules book which compare it to Simonson's Thor, so I think 'shouldn't I read Simonson's Thor instead?' looking at peoples thoughts on Simonson's Thor I see that it's generally considered the best run on the book since Jack Kirby, so now I'm thinking I should pick up an Essential volume with Kirby's run in, but then I see a lot of people say that Kirby reached his peak with the Fourth World books, and the reprints on those cost £30 so at this point I start feeling a bit despondent and decide to play free hentai flash games on the internet instead. And that's why I don't read many current Superhero books.

The Frog of Thunder, [censored] YEAH HORSE THOR (AKA Beta Ray Bill) and one of the best takes on Loki ever, along with Surter's rampage through New York. I was able to use a lot of his stuff for a course on Beowulf last year. I'm not a big fan of Kirby's work on Thor, although I've only read a few of his stories.

Fourth World. the third world is where people live in extreme poverty. I just finished reading Kirby's Thor and a disappointing majority of it is an incoherent mess, a strange crossbreed of generic superheroics and the Asgardian folklore. Some of it is very very good but overall it's patchy and often repetitive (and it's usually the dumbest plotlines that get repeated - eg Odin is asleep, so Loki stages a coup on Asgard) and it's got nothing on Kirby's superb Fantastic Four run.

Jack Kirby's Third World would be awesome!
Oh God I can see it my head! It's amazing! I should totally draw that!

Just read the latest Robin comic. It's got a nice story that integrates nicely with the absence of Batman in Gotham (although you have to wonder how it got that bad? I mean he was gone for a year and left Two Face in charge and nothing bad happened) and Robin struggling with the gang wars. It also sets Robin up nicely with Officer Harper and using her as a possible love interest (although I still miss the good old days of Ariana). My main issue is the use of Spoiler, who should have stayed dead. Her death in the comics was meaningful, I liked it. Hell, it sparked something in me a comic hasn't done in a while. That last panel where she asks if she was ever really part of the legend and Batman says she is, is brilliant. But bringing her back was idiotic, because she's the same old same old and it detracts from the story. Maybe if she had came back having learned something, a lot stronger, like Jason Todd has then it'd be ok but it's back to the same. Kinda as if it never happened, which sucks because it was powerful. And that moment I mentioned is diluted now. Other than that, it's pretty decent.

I read the new issue of Batman, that image is in the actual comic.
But the ending confused me, I read it like three times and I have no clue what happened on the last two pages.

Read it again. THIS is the image I was talking about. I don't know the source, or anything about it, except that its supposedly his costume when he takes over. -edit- Alright, I'll tell you what I think happened. Hurt is the Devil, or he believes himself to be. Googles Batman is his son, the Anti-Christ. He wanted to destroy/corrupt Batman because Bats is this paragon of virtue and blah blah blah.
Anyway, helicopter go boom, no bodies found.
Flash forward, 6 months later.
No Bat in Gotham. Chaos in the streets. And then, the NEW Batman appears.
The last page, the flash back to the night of the murder, was just a framing device. Batman began with his parents death, so it ends just before that.

So I bought the first volume of the Haruhi Suzumiya manga.
It's very... eccentric, in its presentation, throwing all sorts of 'zany' expressions all over the place for the sheer sake of it. The art style isn't that distinctive either; I have slight trouble telling the difference between the characters (except for the obviously unique traits). I got about 3/4 through the first chapter before I couldn't read on any further. In short, a far inferior adaptation when compared to the anime.
On the plus side, it came with a sneak preview of the original novel by Nagaru Tanigawa (which is due for an official localized released sometime next Spring). It was only twelve pages, but I can already say it was structured brilliantly and flowed wonderfully and I want to read more. Now. I haven't been that addicted to a text novel since Harry Potter.
Speaking of addiction, I also bought the 30th volume of Dragon Ball on the spot and ploughed through it in a single sitting upon getting back home. Loved every minute of it.
God damn, Cell is creepy. Hopefully he won't turn out to be a capital rapist and molester unlike his anime English dub counter-part, though.
"He should feel lucky. He's the first one to be touched by my perfect body."
Also bought Bleach volumes 12 - 14 and will probably get round to reading them later. Like "starting tomorrow at a steady pace" later.

Just read the first part of Batman: Cacophony. As much as I don't like Kevin Smith I had high hopes for this because I love Quiver but I can only assume Smith's portrayal of Batman was parody.
"I'm going to beat you in to a coma"
"Shut the hell up"
Batman wouldn't say those things. At least, I can't see him saying those things. Kevin Smith has came under fire for a lot of the comics he wrote and based on this I can see why. He should stick to films I think.* Quiver aside, his comic writing sucks. The story itself was pretty good though, and I like how the Joker acted to an extent. But it's got all those silly Kevin Smith quirks in it and it's the wrong title to do it in. All I can say is he got his fan boy urge to write a Batman title. Now that's out of the way [censored] off and let the professionals do it.
Ok, I'm being a little harsh. And I used to like Kevin Smith too. But ever since I read that diary thing of his he came across like a complete bar steward.
*His latest effort aside. That was dire.

Uh, wiki gave up this nugget on RIP, as well. the origins of the Zur-En-Arrh phrase are revealed as the misheard remarks of Thomas and Martha to their son seconds before their deaths, that if ever a caped vigilante would appear in Gotham, they'd probably throw someone like Zorro in Arkham, thus foreshadowing the final showdown. Whens the next Final Crisis out?
