For a long time now I've been turning over the idea of doing a video counting down the strangest moments ever to have occured in STC; the times when the comic just descended into complete insanity, coming up with stuff that seemed crackers even by the standards of the Sonic franchise.
I already talked about Pirate STC in an earlier video and trust me when I say it does not need to be mentioned again. Still, I thought I'd get a discussion going on what were some of the strangest, kookiest, downright most insane moments STC ever put into print (I will include STCO in this, by the way, just in case anyone comes up with anything from there). I'll then pick out some of the most common mentions and try to put them into a Top 5 or something.
So, not counting Pirate STC, what would you say were the strangest STC moments?

Shanazar. A world inside an atom? Which Robotnik shrinks into, and turns back into Kintobor? And then Robotnik grows it, until it merged with another planet?! Not to mention the whole place was pretty disjointed and wacky - Princess Kupacious and the Arabian Nights theme, Medusa and the Greek theme, the genies, the living diamonds that guarded themselves and many, many other themes, settings and characters besides.
One of the most prominent examples of the complete wackiness of Shanazar was Issue 160's Knightmares - horses, riding on dinosaurs, attempting to take some little blobs' home, so the blobs disguise themselves as a massive suit of armour (calling themselves the "Black Knight", no less), and in order to help them out, Sonic fakes his own death. Even the Special Zone couldn't hope to compare with that level of insanity.

The Amy and Tekno story 'Dream On', where this 'Little Green Man' is having a nightmare about not getting Christmas presents for his family, so is being chased by a giant snowman and turkeys, while he's chasing a Christmas present. Also the art was pretty weird/rubbish.
'New Year Out' came after it and that was almost as weird/rubbish.

The Tantaror. What the heck were they supposed to be? Aliens? Gods? Also anything to do with Simpson - quite possibly the weirdest character on Mobius!

Raining Bananas. Self explanatory really. IT RAINED BANANAS.
The mind swap story in STCO. With the flying whales. Oh my.
Mutant League Football also stands out. That was utterly random, insane in it's delivery and mind bendingly hard to actually decipher what was even going on!
I'll maybe come back with more.

Raining Bananas. Self explanatory really. IT RAINED BANANAS. This. But it was genius regardless. Genius and yet maddening in its wackiness.

That Elemental Four story where Charmy Bee defeats them by turning them into a pot. I still laugh a lot with it, but it's a very...strange way to defeat some villains.

'Snot quite one of the weirdest moments, but I absolutely love the other story like that, where Charmy beats the Crimson Cobra by buying out his company.

Not to mention the whole place was pretty disjointed and wacky - Princess Kupacious and the Arabian Nights theme, Medusa and the Greek theme, the genies, the living diamonds that guarded themselves and many, many other themes, settings and characters besides. As I recall the idea behind the world of Shanazar (beyond it being a microscopic realm along the lines of the Microverse, Fantastic Voyage etc) was that, as Sonic would eventually discover, it was actually the distant past of Mobius (hence the "Arabian Knights" stuff). I think Nigel intended to explore Knuckles' backstory through this but he was kicked off the comic before he could (not that he was convinced he'd be able to anyway given he would have had to alternate with Lew every two issues). Pity really, when he laid this out on the STC Mailing List back then I felt really disappointed that we wouldn't get to read those stories. Of course he wound up finding a different way to cover Knuckles' backstory when he was brought back a year later (at least some of it; that story wound up getting cut short too!). The planet wasn't supposed to be called Shanazar either, that's just the name of the city.

The football manager who siphoned Sonic's speed into his team. Yeah. Football Lazy. Yeah, I'm going to go with that and It's Raining Bananas for now. *surreptitiously checks the wiki for anything he might have forgotten*

There was a pretty bizarre story in one of the poster mags where a dinosaur (?) steals a chaos emerald and tries to sell it to Knuckles. The artwork is really odd. How about the one where the veggies come to life? With the mole who looks eerily like the bad guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Quite frankly, the length of the Shanazar storyline and then merging it with Mobius and Earth.
Talk about losing your way.
I've just read the two stories, first with the Indians and then with the superheroes. The material's bad, but the writing was awful. Oh look there's spirits, oh look a gateway, oh look superheroes, oh look a convention, oh look a meteor.

Oh look there's spirits, oh look a gateway, oh look superheroes, oh look a convention, oh look a meteor. Those were both rather dire. The creative team was going through a bit of a rough patch at the time. Fortunately the material picked up sharply in the issues that followed (for the remaining six months of original stories, anyway).

Also anything to do with Simpson - quite possibly the weirdest character on Mobius! Poor Simpson he's just misunderstood, y'know!!! Has nobody mentioned Decap Attack? That was all a bit mad, absolutely brilliant, but mad none the less! Legend of Mr Cuddle-Bunny springs to mind...
