There is actually a pretty simple strategy to beating Shao Kahn. If you get up close to him and then just start jumping over him and kicking, that will probably do the trick. Even if he does his upward charge, it's usually just too late to hit you. Alternatively, getting far away and timing your projectile attacks is a good way to go about it. A lot of the players can fire their projectiles fairly quickly, whereas Kahn's Light Spear is generally slower to fire off. And of course he often takes the time to gloat (idiot) and leave himself vulnerable, so that's the time to hit him with enhanced or x-ray attacks.

The scary thing is, he's STILL not as hard as he was in MK3.

I always thought he was harder in MK2.

I never thought I would enjoy a Mortal Kombat story this much. They really managed to breathe life into both the characters - even the ones I thought I wouldn't care about, like Jade and Kabal - and the setting. I actually give a damn when something happens.
So, are we allowed to discuss story events without spoiler tags now?

I dont like some of the recons they made and I dont like that most of the villians might as well be nameless thugs you bump into. And the amount of deaths just for shock value.
But it really was quite a fun little watch.

I dont like some of the recons they made Such as? It's not as if Mortal Kombat's story has ever been anything other than a pile of muck in the past. This game is the first time anything feels like it has genuine weight. and I dont like that most of the villians might as well be nameless thugs you bump into. On the contrary, it was nice to see them acting out their roles (i.e.: Ermac is an enforcer, Reptile is Tsung's bodyguard, Sheeva is a high-ranking taskmaster etc.). It made the world feel more functional. I wouldn't peg that as something that made the game worse. Although I imagine that Reptile and Baraka have rather dented prides at this point, yeah. And the amount of deaths just for shock value. Normally I'd agree, but on this occassion it really helped make the final battle feel all the more desperate and...well, final. There's also the fact that their deaths will obviously play a role in the sequel, what with Quan Chi's resurrection/corruption binge.

Well the biggest retcon was the whole Mileena and Kitana were twin sisters. Which was changed to how it is now.
Baraka, Reptile and Sheeva are punching bags. Ermac and Mileena only got a little more fanfare.

Well the biggest retcon was the whole Mileena and Kitana were twin sisters. Which was changed to how it is now. And that matters because...? It's a total non-issue. Baraka, Reptile and Sheeva are punching bags. Baraka's just as intimidating as he ever was, really. He's a scary monster, but also just a glorified grunt (Jade even outright calls him a guard dog). No damage done there. I wouldn't call Sheeva a punching bag. Whenver I went up against her it was always with a fair amount of trepidation. I practically wet myself during Cyrax's chapter when he turned around and both Sheeva and Baraka were marching straight towards him. Reptile does get clobbered a lot, but damn if he doesn't have some nice entrances. So, here's a question for you guys: think we're going to see Shang Tsung again?

Hard one that one.
Probably.
I doubt he'll be involved in the next story though. He'll be DLC with Shao Kahn probably.

Not in any canonical aspect seeing as Kahn pretty much killed him. But then again, magic and necromancy and all that, so who knows?

BlazBlue is generally considered the first fighting game to bother investing in a decent story. Tekken 6 tried to make something of itself too...but I really just found myself not giving a damn. Which is weird, since I always wanted the Tekken gang to feel more alive. Oh, well.
Soul Calibur 3 actually had a pretty expansive story for each character, but the tales were presented as walls of text and so you felt detached from what was going on. Also, [censored] those QTEs.
But yeah: Mortal Kombat's story is really, really good. As I was playing through it I found myself thinking "I'm playing a Mortal Kombat game...and enjoying the story. What have I become?!"

Didn't the teeth give it away? When you originally played MK2: Kitana and Mileena were twins. So they spent time together, trained together, played pokemon together, put ribbons in each others hair and they kissed all the boys. So many dead boys. Then it turned out Mileena was a clone in case Kitana ever turned good. In this game Mileena is just finished.

I hope they don't re-introduce too many of the characters from Mortal Kombat's later years. Most of them were awful. I'd easily prefer them to create new characters in their stead.
Having said that, who would you guys like to see return? If anyone.

A load of them were all right. Just needed a bit more work on design and moves.
I really want - Sareena, Bo Rai Cho, Havik and Hotaru back though. Wouldn't mind Fujin, Tanya, Kai, Mavado, Kira, Frost and Ashrah back.

Let me think... Kai was quite a cool fighter, I thought. He didn't really add anything to the story, though. If Boon develops his character some, that would be sweet. Shinnok will definitely be back, although they could stand to expand his move set a little bit. Reiko can [censored] off and die. Jarek can [censored] off and die TWICE. Wouldn't mind seeing Tanya again. Fujin... maybe. He had potential in MK4, being an Elder God and all, but they didn't really expand on his character much. Bo Rai Cho... yes. The new game even reminded us that he was the one who trained Liu Kang, so it would make sense to bring him back. Li Mei was a fairly decent fighter, but entirely forgettable. Leave her out. Kenshi rocked so hard! BRING HIM BACK! The Red Dragon characters just seemed... well, cheap. Screw 'em. Moloch and Drahmin can go to hell. Oh wait... ;D [censored] Frost! We've had enough Sub-Zero clones over the years, NO MORE! Sod Blaze. Sod Dairou. Sod Sareena. Sod Darrius. Hotaru and Havik can [censored] right off. The whole Orderrealm vs. Chaosrealm thing in Deception was pointless. Kira and Kobra can die in a hole. [censored] SHUJINKO!! [censored] HIM SIDEWAYS TO HELL!!! Onaga was actually kind of cool, but I don't think he'd serve much purpose now. Taven and Daegon served there purpose in Armageddon. Stuff 'em.
