Read the title. Who do you think will win?

I think the PSP will 'win', if 'win' constitutes as 'sells the most units'.
However, which one will be better, is a different story. Both are fine machines. We'll have to see.

I honestly couldn't care about the PSP if you paid me. And that's not just my anti-Sony bias, it just hasn't grabbed my attention.
"Wow...it has pretty graphics...wow..."
DS, on the other hand, has grabbed my attention, but I'm not convinced that I actually want one. We'll have to wait and see.

Though we all know that Nintendo have had a firm hold over the handheld industry for many years, it's just the thing of PS2 graphics on a handheld... phew. Still, the Dual Screen should be able to attract attentions but I think with the sheer popularity and amount of games that Sony already have, the PSP will pull ahead with major difficulty.
Edit: *looks at Jamie sig* Blimey. I'm honored.

Sam, to be honest, I couldn't give a toss about your anti Sony thing, I just want to know which you think will triumph over the other. That's it.

Ah, right. Sorry, I thought this was about which one you preferred. I think the PSP will probably "win", as t'were, as the majority of the public will likely go for it. The DS will most likely end up as A) a purchase for self-styled "hardcore gamers" and/or B) a short-lived kiddie novelty craze over PictoChat etc, in a similar way to Tamagotchi.

Well, in defence of the PSP, it's not just about 'pretty graphics', if the fact that they are converting Gran Turismo 4, or THUG 2 to it means anything to you. The screen is massive, it's got a huge storage capacity, and can play DVDs and music, too.

I don't belive the PSP can play DVD movies as it does not use DVD discs. Or even DVD sized discs.
This is an oxymoronous statment but, I; Jim shall buy the Sony console.
I don't want no console that has a hinge.
Edit: I don't care for hand 'eld games so if I were to steal one I'd steal the charver made one.

I heard recently that the PSP may only have about 2 hours of battery life This could be a real shame if true.

I'm going with Ds. (I'm a bit my Nintendo Bias I guess) But It seems that Ds just has more big names for it... Mario,Metroid and big third parties like Sonic and Megaman. Sony doesnt really have any big name games except maybe gta,r.a.c, and Jak.... but they're not going to transfer over. The only game I might want on PSP is maybe ridge racer..or maybe Dark stalkers (though it's just a arcade port).
This is all (imo)

Ah, now, see, the DVD function has got me interested. Didn't know about that. Yeah, as SSJ said, you can't use your existing DVDs on it. You have to buy the movie again in UMD format, which is a bit of a blow to that particular feature.

Wow, this topic has surprised me. In most places where this conversation goes on, most people seems to say the DS and slag off the PSP.
I can’t even start to guess which one will do better, but I am personally more excited about the DS. The large amount of gameplay options, the longer lifespan and the cheaper price has won me over. Plus I already own a PS2 so I kinda want to spread out my gaming (I wanta play Nintendo games dammit!)

And I bet a lot of you own a dvd that you also own on video. chances are the same thing will occur if you get something that has to play umd.

Yeah but I wouldn't expect publishers to print and sell movies for only one device (as well as the general DVD release). And these UMDs are lesser to DVDs too.

Sadly, even though the PSP seems to have the battery life problem, and no real redeeming features about it besides it's overall fugliness (unless it was just pictures I saw that made it look like the casing was tacky shiny black plastic), I'm sure it'll grind Nintendo into the ground, just because 90% of people have the "Nintendo is for kids" attitude. I meanwhile, have a DS on the way to me in the mail right now Hope you all enjoy your 2-hour lifespan and buying movies 34857348596345 times, suck'as

i was suprised to find out the retail price of the psp yesterday in the latest issue of edge magazine, the retail price after tax is a mere £105, now that may seem at lot, but consider the movie play back, the music play back, the game play, and the style of graphic + the atual price of making these things, I fact it is so cheap some insiders are claiming a loss for sony of £200 per unit, and the psp has to be a major potrable player by 2006 for sony to make any money from the system at all.
howver of the games annonced for the psp so faronly two grab my attention metal gear acid (japanesse releash december 16) and vampire cronicle: the chaos tower (from capcom for dec 12)
the ds certainly seems to have shaped up better and have more games for the relesh date, however I think in the end sony is the bigger name, and is rickying a lot on this console and with a memory stick and the option to download content to the data stick, it will come out on top

I was playing Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS against my friend at a game shop... it seemed pretty smooth.. except it took a while for me to get used to the controls.. you move the direction by touching the bottom screen..

Who you calling a moron. I'm just saying the DS looks better. But you didn't say that, did you? You in fact said something completely pointless. Although, I don't think Mango's post was moronic. Re-read it, Jamie J. I thought it made some good points. Personally, I'm getting my DS in January or possibly late December. I can't wait.
