I honestly didn't catch anything of it in the series, but now she mentions it, it just seems to make sense. Also, the pic of Michael Gambon makes him look totally gay.

Yeah, that's true. Yeah, you're right. XD XD Yeah my ex-boyfriend told me something like that about the whole 'touching his wand' quote. Haha. I'm just curious to see how other fans react. There are going to be a lot of homophobes that are going to now turn against the books because of it.

Same here, I never really thought about his sexuality to be honest. It seemed irrelevant. XD I just thought Dumbledore's "great tragedy" was because Grindlewald was his childhood best friend. Obviously there was more depth and feeling to it. But, I'm sure an individual would feel as low about having to defeat a best friend as well. Yeah it does make sense. The thing is I can imagine Dumbledore being gay when acted by Michael Gambon, but I see it less when he was acted by the late Richard Harris.

Personally I AM a bit surprised, though I really shouldn't be. Nothing was said about his love life in his past, so his sexuality was pretty much unknown and he could have been straight, gay or bi. Before this, part of me was thinking he may even be asexual.
But dear God, I wish Rowling had kept that a secret. Now some of the more [censored]ed-up fans are going to write and draw all sorts of Dumbledore slash with Harry or Snape... Even when it's pretty much evident Dumbledore doesn't hold THOSE sort of feelings for them.
There's just no stopping them. What's going on through those heads of theirs, anyway? Romantic/sexually depraved fools.
Well, Skeeter was saying on and on about how Dumbledore dabbled in the Dark Arts in the past, and neglected to mention about how he saw the error of his ways, so I think the whole 'dodgy' thing comes from the fact he was taking an interest in Harry just because he temporarily stopped Voldemort at the age of one; An attempt of her's to make the public think Dumbledore didn't love Harry at all like a son; That he just took interest him in to become an apprentice to succeed him one day in being a secret Dark Wizard.
And there's the whole thing about how she's also making the public think it was Harry who killed Dumbledore, not Snape.
This conversation is coming dreadfully close to Deathly Hallow spoilers, by the way.

It is really annoying because Snape/Harry to Dumbledore were just intimately close friendships. Fans that say things like you have pointed out frustrate me. Yeah, I think you're right about the Rita Skeeter comment.

I did always think it was a bit odd that for a series that's all about tolerance homosexuality was never mentioned, not even in the subtlest undertones to avoid fools wittering about "DA CORRUPTION OF DER KIDS". So there you go.

In a way, I'm glad it wasn't made explicit, because what's wrong with keeping people guessing? There's nothing wrong with a little mystique. Also, it's going to be fun watching the fundies get their knickers in a twist and claim the books are promoting Teh Ghey.

Actually, homophobia was demonstrated (Dudley in #5). So it wasn't like she was above mentioning it, she just chose not to. Which would be fine except at points she was practically keeping running scores of who was with whom. I agree the mystique worked for Dumbledore though.

Dunno, chavs at my school write like that (even at A level...) and Halo is quite popular with chavs who can afford Xboxes as well as the obligatory Playstation...

wow, that actually makes perfect sense with Dumbledore's personality. We used to have this wicked-awesome old music teacher at my school who was a little Dumbledore-esque. huh? Wait? Gay people...exist? I thought that only happened in children's stories D:

Tom felt that this news was so important that I had to be informed of it a couple of days after it had been reported via text message. Warning: Do not give Tom your phone number. I was mosty on the "Oh, the bravery of revealing a dead character is gay in a book series that just finished" side, but I can't argue with both Colleen Doran AND Carla Speed McNeil so what the hell.
