Fourthed (?), although I seem to recall he'd expressed interest in doing one of them before and WB said "no ta". Hopefully the success of Pan's Labyrinth will sway them.
Plus I always get him and Alfonso Curáon (sp?) mixed up anyway so there you go.

Fifthed. Apparently it was the other way round? They expressed interest but, at that point, the books seemed too cheery for him.

Well, I was close... I definitely remember that Terry Gilliam was Rowling's first choice for the first movie, and they didn't approach him then, but when they did later on (POA possibly?) he got huffy and said "You missed your chance".

Double post zomg
Just a heads-up that there's a dock-you-mentary about Rowling on ITV tonight (7pm) following her for a year in the run-up to the Deathly Hallows launch. Looks fairly interesting.
Also I hereby declare this thread spoileriffic because everyone who's interested in how it ends will have read the book/Wikipedia article by now.

Just a heads-up that there's a dock-you-mentary about Rowling on ITV tonight (7pm) following her for a year in the run-up to the Deathly Hallows launch. Looks fairly interesting. I managed two minutes and then decided that there was a reasonable chance that it was the worst television show of any description ever recorded. OMG GOBLINS CAN'T BE TRUSTED

It wasn't great, it must be said. The bit where they looked at the lead-up to the book's launch was fairly interesting, but the rest was bleh.

Thought I'd bump this thread to flag up the new Deathly Hallows trailer. Didn't realise it was so far back...
Looks quite good. Also, check out 0:24 - David Yates has discovered a colour that isn't blue, grey, or bluey-grey! ZOMG

Oi oi. Nudge. So who's seen it yet? I went yesterday. I went Saturday... twas a'ight I suppose. A long boring middle squished between two pretty good chunks. The early chase scenes were pretty sweet!

*is late*
I saw it...um, a couple of weeks back. Better than I was expecting: it felt a bit more like a movie in its own right as opposed to a highlights-of-the-book package.
The big chase through the forest before they get nabbed and shipped off to Bellatrix was filmed a couple of miles near my house, it's getting to be quite a popular filming area. See also the opening of Gladiator, couple of bits of Children of Men, that Coldplay video where he's walking backwards, a little bit of Inkheart and about half of Robin Hood: all the same place. They've were filming Captain America here a few months back (meant to be a secret, all the locals know about it anyway).
